Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • doors are auto locking VCDS help

Its been happening for about the last 6 months that the doors will automatically lock when the car is turned off. Even if you are in the car and turn the ignition off, the doors/immob were lock and then usually the alarm will sounds due to the motion sensor if you are sitting in it. A couple of nights ago the car locked itself with the keys sitting in the ignition (and me out of the car) and luckily the nrma guy was able to get his wire onto the remotes unlock button and get me out of trouble - but this has got to stop.
Its such a consistent thing that its like its defaulted its immobiliser settings or something. I have VCDS but can anyone help me with the appropriate recoding info so that I can change how it works. Also wouldnt mind permanently deactivating the motion sensor if thats possible too.

I've got the same problem.. Never used to occur if I had either the boot or the drivers side door open.. But now its happening all the time. I'm replacing the boot micro switch this weekend (because the boot wont unlock sometimes) so I'll see if that helps.

Just did a bit more reading and it seems that it thinks a door is open. That's also why the interior light wont come on when the doors are opened, and why the chime wont sound to say the headlights are still on after parking. The passenger side door wont bring up its open symbol. I'll keep hitting the micro switch area with every chemical I can in the hope that its just crud caught in there which is fairly common.

So large amounts of spray and opening and closing the drivers side door literally a thousand times (a guy in the carpark was watching me do it probably thinking that I had a solid case of OCD), and the drivers side has come good. The door open lamp comes up on the dash and the interior light comes on. BUT the door open recognition on the dash doesn't appear for the passenger side door.
Can anyone out there with a known good passenger side door maybe see for me if it should bring up the same dash lamp? Don't want to strip that door unless its absolutely necessary.

confirmed - ignition on, both doors closed, open passenger door and dash lamp comes on

thanks buddy. alright tomorrow that micro switch will drown in various sprays until it works. It worked for the drivers side! Looking at my spare doors I think I'd rather swap an entire complete door than dismantle the thing to do a latch/switch swap.

In 4 days I've had the car lock itself with the keys inside (door switches) , the MAF sensor die, a brake pedal switch error (that turned out to be rear taillight globes) WTF? that's 3 at least though.
