1948 Wolseley 680. Looked like an old Roll Royce. Great in traffic as EVERYONE would give way. Weighed around 2 ton with 75 HP and the best drag I ever had was with this car and a bus off the lights. Bus almost beat me.
1959 Austin Lancer Series 1. Everything they say about English cars and Lucas, Prince of Darkness, is true. Horn came on once whilst we were chasing rabbits in the local cemetery. Electric fuel pump died in the middle of a thunderstorm, had to sit in the boot (trunk) hitting it to get it going. Lights would turn themselves off and on. Everything that could break on the car did.
1957 Mercedes 220S Beautiful car to drive, soaked up the bumps and cornered very well once I flared the guards and fitted 14x7 mag wheels with big rubber. Fitted front springs from a V8 Falcon to help keep the car stable through corners. Interior was magnificent with wood panels around all the windows and dash. My grandfather bought it for me for $700 and a hundred garden gnomes.
Another Austin Lancer. I ended up giving it to my brother who fitted a hot MGB1800 motor. This little car would do 100 mph in 3rd, never found out what 4th would do but it easily kept up with V8’s. We once towed a friends van when it broke down. The friend kept putting the brakes on because we were towing too fast!
1969 Triumph 2.5PI. Heap of junk
Triumph TR4, TR5. Both were fun cars once I modified the suspension. There’s not many cars I’ve owned that I regret selling but the TR5 is one of them.
1970 Bolwell Nagari. Aussie kit car, looked like a Lambo Muira but with fibreglass body and Ford V8 mechanicals. Very fast (330hp and 2000 lbs) but broke down at least once a week. Ate my licence twice (speeding). Seems the Police object when you do 240k’s in a residential area.
1969 Cooper S. Fun car but too basic.
1970 Jag XJ6 with a 253 Holden V8. Nice to drive but full of rust.
1978 VW Golf x 2. Both great cars. Bought one for my wife and then bought a fully modified one that would run down anything on tight, twisty roads.
1978 Sciroco. Bought this car in England when we were on a long holiday. Drove it across Europe to Hungary to stay with the wife's relatives for a few months then drove back to England. Very reliable but the rust was so bad the front wing fell off!
1978 Triumph 2500S. Don’t know why I bought this after the 2.5PI. Another crap car.
1992 Ford Fairmont V8. Beautiful car. Did everything that I asked and more.
1981 VW Golf GTI. Not as nice as our old Golf, ended up selling it for more than I paid for it.
1999 Ford Fairmont wagon. Another great Ford, still have it.
1997 VW Polo. Amazing car, uses so little petrol but still cruises on the open road well above the speed limit. My daily driver.

Along the way there have also been a few motor bikes too. My RGV would be my favourite if I still had it.

      Cheers

          OK -- here goes!

1954 Hillman Minx (terminal rust and brakes failed -- completely! )
1972 Cooper S Mk II, 1310, Weber 45 DCOE (...now THAT was a fun car)
1975 Honda Civic -- strangely, was as much fun as the Cooper S, without the attention; and
1968 Datsun 1600 rally car - 2.4L, twin Webers, 240Z 5sp box, 240K diff -- Tim went rallying -- needed wipers on the side windows -- drifting? -- tell me about it
1980 VW Golf GTI -- oh, how I pined for this car, it was great fun, too -- but it had a faulty cylinder head -- eventually settled with VW and only just getting accustomed to the idea of other VWs in my lifetime (OK, it took 26 years to get the bad vibe out of my system)
1981 Mazda 626 -- the most reliable car I ever owned
1984 BMW 528 -- does anyone know what vapour lock in hot weather is? Neither did I before owning this car -- every hot summer day
1985 Mazda 323 hatch -- for the wife
          1986 Volvo 240 wagon -- 3 kids by then, luckily I get the 323
1987 Mazda 626 hatch -- for the wife
1988 Volvo 740 turbo wagon -- adjustable Konis and swaybars made this the greatest stealth car I ever owned
          1990 Mazda 626 hatch -- when you're on a good thing
1992 Range Rover -- it was the fashion -- many problems
1994 Mazda 626 sedan -- bit boring by now
1996 Range Rover HSE -- once you buy one, you have to keep buying them as the trade-in/exchange is so attractive -- some problems
Then in the UK until 2003 -- no car owned as we lived in central London -- very liberating
1997 Mazda 323 4dr Coupe 2.0 V6 -- bought this the week of our return UK -- good fun
          2002 Holden Calais -- wife's co car -- POS
2003 Mazda RX-8 -- as much fun as you can have in a car...at my age
2005 Honda Accord Euro -- wife's co car -- very pleasant
2006 VW Polo GTI -- ah, Cooper S, almost, all over again....and cheap as chips to run after the RX-8
2008 VW Golf GT TDI DSG -- wife's, quite a hoot to drive for diesel
          2015 White German SUV
          2013 White German hatch
          2011 Silver French hot hatch
2008 TR Golf GT TDI DSG

1999 Mitsubishi Lancer Coupe (it had the 1.8 at least!) - completely stock except for Lukey muffler, very proud I never fitted it with clear taillights, a cannon, or EVO body parts
2005 Mazda 3 SP23 Sedan - mildly modified, reasonably fun until I had enough of things going wrong under warranty
Now the Polo - my first Euro

            That's all for me, but family wise;

1986 Mazda 626 - no PS, glad I wasn't driving when we had this car
            1992 Mitsubishi Lancer
1996 Mitsubishi Lancer (see a trend here )
            2003 Mazda 6 Lux Sports

I put it down to clean living.......which doesn't explain why Timbo's had so many.

Hmmm...Cooper S, Datsun 1600, RX-8, Polo all rate. Given it was a primarily family car, the Volvo 740 Turbo wagon was surprisingly good fun!

And Buller_Scott, have you waited until after your 10th birthday before buying a car?!

                      I'm a bit surprised MACCAA chose the '307' 1970 HG Monaro over the 1970 '350 Chev' HG GTS Monaro (224kw/515nm, 1530kg, 0-100 7.5sec, 1/4 mile 16 flat - price in 1970: $4,174 )

I've owned some unremarkable cars but these were probably my favourites for various reasons:

                              1. Commodore VH Interceptor - quickest car I ever owned, too many mods to list, ..just suprised I never died in that thing.
                              2. Alfa Romeo GTV6 - cost me a fortune to run, but the way the clutch engaged the gearbox, the sublime steering, ..the exhaust note etc made you quickly forget why you spent every cent you earnt on it.
                              3. Mk1 Golf - great litle car, race car suspension, loved it.
                              4. Peugeot 205 GTI - fun car, but quickly grew sick of the buzzy, bone-jarring ride and appalling French reliability.
                              5. Polo GTI - a mate recently remarked that my Polo (with go fast gear) probably would have kept up with my interceptor. Hasn't engine technology come a long way

^^^^ some one else that's driven an Alfa

1985 Alfa Romeo GTV : if I didn't spend so much on this I would have more cars

                                2000 toyota RAV4

1990 Alfa Romeo 33 8V (yes I was bitten by the bug)

1990 Alfa Romeo 33 16V (HEAPS better than the 8V..and corners like a MOFO)

2008 POLO GTI (could go better around corners .. but at least everything works and I hope it stays that way for a long time)
