Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Low Coolant Temp

    Hi Guys,
Over the last month or so with the cooler mornings and days around Sydney I’ve noticed that my coolant temp doesn’t go above 70-73.
The dash temp gauge and the ScanGauge I have both show this lower temp.
The car doesn’t seem to take any longer to warm up, it just won’t warm beyond about 73.
Any idea on what could be the cause?

just happened to me mate. Probably the thermostat stuck open. Same deal for me - would warm up ok on a warmer day but not quite make the happy zone. On really cold nights /mornings though if I was cruising along in 5th it would struggle to get even that. Then if I put the heater on the temp would drop back down again. If you see those sorts of things its most likely the thermostat stuck partly open. I had a bit of a thread on it down the list. I think I put part numbers in there. Get yourself a tridon stat from bursons but get your O-ring from VW genuine.
