Has anyone asked an exhaust shop how much to make a downpipe? Got to be better than paying $1100 for the (overpriced) aftermarket ones. I mean, think about it, $50 for the materials and a couple of hours max for the cutting and welding.
yeah thats all well and good but the quality R&D has gone into the APR DP (which comes with a cat remember). takes jasn78's results for example....he has sourced his own FMIC and exhaust, joined with the seat intake and software he got a 132kW on his last run, when the first 3 were all about 127-128kW. Eddy has the same gear in APR and got constant 135kW's (highest i think was 135.8kW) over all 4 runs.
i know i would be paying the extra for the products i know the necessary R&D has gone in to.
A SEAT intake & K&N does not deliver any extra power .... HOWEVER .... if you look at the power curves the top end has a much broader spread of power and chipped with SEAT etc means you have above 115kw ATW up to 6500rmin. Without SEAT etc power drops off noticably above 5500rmin, so at 6500 you are down 15kw on a SEAT version.
A FMIC will keep your power more consistent over time with minimal loss as its gets hotter. Mine is good for an instant 5kw ATW at any temp.
....
Stage 2 on Eddy's cars was worth 2kw ATW. Not much there .... HOWEVER .... the power curve has totally changed. Max power was now made at 5100rmin instead of 6500rmin and the curve below that was noticably more muscular. I believe that for day to day driveability this might actually be worthwhile unless you are revving your car to 7000rmin all the time.
Is someone going to be posting up the dyno charts? I know many people doubt dynos, but it is in illustrating the shape of a power curve (rather than an absolute power number) that shows their value. The shape of the curve, and the changes in that shape with various mods. The Brisbane day looked like a well-controlled event to show some of these, so I'd be really keen to see the different charts, if anyone has them.

back on line now - it was a good day - 6 cars over 4 hours was a tight stretch but I think it worked out pretty well.
Hope there was some good info from the dyno operator, and especially on the heatsoak & retained power - and also the factors of tyre pressure & loss of HP from tying the vehicle down.
I think Paul mentioned it there, but he estimates on a FWD that his dyno has approx 20% drivetrain loss (and he has done thousands of cars on it).
It was good to see that same cars with same mods produce identical figures when the dyno OP sets the cars up the same (Dave & Rhys within a KW of each other) and the results from cars with similar mods were pretty consistent.
We have 30 + data logs, so we will try to pull out some later in the week that will have useful comparisons.
I only have one dyno plot - Eddy stage 1 vs Stage .
It will be interesting to see what changed with the BMC in the data logs - peak HP was pretty much the same, but of course we just ran it hanging out the bonnet without any adaptation!
Guy, seems you're not a big fan of the new stage 2 file. ..if your Polo doesn't sell, then why not go stage 3 and show the poms how to make a Polo GTI kick some serious butt?
To be honest, if we had the funds for another project car, I would buy a damaged one like Koz's old one & do it - I would also seriously look into getting some production widebody kits made to cover 30-40mm wider tyres!
We have not looked at all the stage 2 data yet, but we suspected earlier (knowing the ME7 very well) that different code would change the power curve, but not increase peak power - it certainly does seem to have done this.
Eddy's running with the stage 2 software for a week or two, I'll get some driving opinions off him whilst we exchange the datalogs with the US & UK

Might be a good idea bc Jason's now a mission to build a ballistic Pog with MBC running 30psi !! He's pushing big power now and is aiming for mid-13s. He's even keeping his car dirty so it looks intimidating, nasty and constantly ready for action

hahahaha ....he's definitely succeeding in that department, he even left the number from the drags on his rear left window . "f**k washing, i'm here for speed "
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told that the dyno operator was startled when he opened Jason's bonet and noticed his engine cover which read "I did it my way" ..hahaha
