The only time they show is if the dealer tries to reflash with their stock map it will say 'are you sure you want to go over the current map'.
so if you set it to standard before hand it would be completely undetectable?

Totally, unless they played with the cruise control stick (in the case of APR).

Get the security code from APR and the dealer cannot change settings using the cruise control without your secret code. It becomes completely undetectable. Will even prevent the dealer overwriting your maps.

The security code is done through the cruise control stalk too, so they would be able to tell if it's on there as well.

APR reinstate their tune for free if it is overwritten, so it'd be better to not alert the dealer rather than not let them.

              Do GIAC do that to?

You'd probably have to ask the dealer, Guy told me about the APR thing.

i bought the car 2nd hand with the APR tune already there.... do you reckon i would be able to get it done for free (if anything happened) seeing as i don't have the receipts? i have the manual in the glove box , thats proof!

They'd have a record of VIN number I believe, so yeah.

Is there even a GIAC dealer in Melbourne?

Zoom in on Melbourne, there are 2.

I can vouch for the service of APR (at least in Brisbane, Guy and Alex are tops!) and have heard good things about Volkspower.

Thanks Tosspot... no aussie site and there info didn't fill me with confidence so going to go with APR... okay one last question how long in advance did people book to get it done just want an estimate seeing as no point in me ringing, seeing as I don't have a firm date on when I'll get my car.

It takes about 10 minutes, so you probably don't have to book in at all. Might want to check with your local dealer though.

Actually there is now way of telling whether it requires a security code. No blinks of lights on the dash or anything. Unless you enter the security code (through the cruise control) in exactly the correct order, the cruise control does not respond to map change requests at all. It is as if the car is not chipped at all.

Once the map is locked, you can press away at the cruise control button and nothing happens (no flashing lights, nothing) untill it is properly unlocked.

                              Ask Guy for an explanation.
