Shift to 2nd at high rpm

Hi Guys..

Was trying to chase an integra type s this evening, have problem go in to 2nd...

make a big loud gear crunching nosie...

Have to give up the chase and drive slow...

Run a while and the gear box back to normal...

Should i change my transmission oil?

Only done 3500km on the car..

This is a common gear box problem on the polo, right?

If it is, then yes. Go to your dealer and tell them the problem. Quote recall code 35a7.

Ahh sorry i thought they were a 6 speed..

Yeah the recall is for your box.

Take it to the dealer, quote that code and they'll drop the synthetic oil out, bash some mineral oil in and half an hour later you'll be out of there with a smooth G'box again.

I had to get it done with my Caddy.

Im not sure if its a definite recall as such where a letter goes out to all involved and tell thems to return the car for fixing. Rather its a notice to all VW dealers if they are servicing a POLO GTI then change the oil imediatly.

That was my understanding.

But definitly go to the dealer tell them about the code mentioned above and all should be done for free. Just hope you dont have to get the Gbox replaced like me.... for free

Hitman i think your spot on. jmac put a thread up with what he did to fix one of the guys polo's on here. Im 99% positive it was non synthetic.

Redline Mtl is really good and really alters the characteristics of the box ... costs about $70.

Guys Redline MTL is Synthetic based. It has great friction propeties which you need to slow down the syncronisers instead of slippage which causes the horrible crunchies you are experiencing. Redline also deadens gear noise.

hi.

of those guys who have experienced problems with their gearbox ie crunching into 2nd.

has it occured since day 1? and is it constant, every change at high rpm to 2nd?
