Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Shark fin antenna

Hi all. I have just bought a 2017 GTI Polo. Does anyone know if it's easily possible to change the stick antenna to a shark fin as on the Golf. I have factory sat nav. VW parts and service have not been of much help.

I changed mine on my bora with one that sits over the base of the subby and screws into the stubby, then stick on with tape. There is abit of radio reception loss but very marginal, no different to the short stubby I had reception wise. Perfect around town but easy to lose signal in low signal areas.

Look at this on eBay Universal Auto Car ABS Roof Radio AM/FM Signal Shark Fin Style Aerial Antenna AU | eBay

Got mine for 7 dollars I think.

**you may need to cut the gasket off the base of the antenna.. mine was already gone hence the replacement.

Thanks for the reply but I was hoping that I would be able to switch over with a genuine VW antenna such as one from the current golf.

        Ahh no worries.

Found another one. I don't know what the one you are looking for looks like.

This one has a part number on it in the images. Vw spares might be more help with that.

        # 5Q0-035-507-Q-5FQ last bit should be yhe color code
