Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo GTI Muffler Delete

I want to do this do i ask the muffler shop to remove the middle muffler or the rear? im after the dsg farts on upshifts.
Is it called a resonator delete?

Yes, it's called a resonator delete, I think it's the middle muffler not the rear.

Cool thanks mate! will i get the farts on upshifts? and what do i tell the person doing it. Just tell them i want them to remove the resonator?

It should give you farts if you remove the resonator. Yeah, tell them you want a resonator delete. I'm going to get mine done next week but no farts for me cause mine is a manual. Something to consider is paying a little more and asking them to make it so it can be reversed easier without welding if you wanted to go back to normal, they either add clamps or flanges to it.

Yeah I was considering doing that so it's an easy change over. Might cost more but worth it. Just hope there would be no leaks

Yes it is the front resonator delete, I got mine done about 2 months ago, cost me $80 in North Melb. The car sounds much better now, and up shifting is good.

should i get it welded up or have it so its interchangable with flanges? will cost more but an easy change over if i get sick of it.

I would think interchangeable would be better. At least that way you can leave it or change it if you want.

I had mine done on the weekend and found it's only loud 3,000rpm++ and not much louder than stock below that. The wife has gave it the thumbs up and doesn't think it's loud.

Did mine (mid resonator) - replaced with a 3.5" fluted hot dog... sounds good...

Was it purely aesthetic or was there a performance gain? Any feedback from the bytt dyno?

Aesthetic for me... I wanted it slightly louder, if any performance gain, it's a plus. I did the turbo muffler delete and replaced the turbo intake hose at the same time. The turbo spool is definitely quicker.
