  • Broken Key, fixes?

    Hey all,

Well I somehow managed to break they key on the polo today. Its just the allow piece where the actual key flips on. its been getting loose for some time now and today it just gave up the ghost. aside of epoxying it to the assembly and living with it, are any spare parts available for the flip keys? I know there are a myriad of knockoff ones on ebay

Describes what has happened but rather than cracking like the pic shows, i've lost that top little piece alloy piece.

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)

Use your spare one You can usually buy the shell and fit the guts into it

Whatever you do, don't buy new from the dealer - their prices are extortionate.
I got spares made from a local guy off ebay - half the price - using Chinese VW parts

If you are going to have a go at changing over the parts into a new shell be VERY careful with the transponder chip, these are glued in and most of the time don't come out in one piece.

Thanks for the tip. I am hoping to just use the flip key mechanism from a ebay shell and place it into my original VW one so that i dont need to remove any of the electronics but we'll see when it gets here.. given they are so cheap i ordered from a few different ebay sellers but i suspect they'll all of comparable (read: poor) quality.
