Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 2013 GTI 6R - which brake fluid to use?

Hey guys, as title says I am not sure which brake fluid I should use to replace my current fluid after doing all the pads and rotors. VW specifies VW 501 14 standard..

Do any of the aftermarket fluids match this?

    Thanks

Castrol DOT 4 should do it. - http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...uid-75515.html

The brake fluid must comply with one of the following standards or specifications:
      ● VW 501 14
      ● FMVSS 116 DOT4
      ● DIN ISO 4925 CLASS 4

Two Penrite (available at SuperCheap and Autobarn) brake fluid products match those specs

Thanks. I was under the impression that it must comply with all 3 standards?

Hello... not sure if it is as per specification, but I changed my brake fluid a couple of months ago.

Now using Motul Dot 5.1 Non Silicone... it is brilliant and I have about 15 years experience using it.

Buy at Motorcycle Shop and there are many different varieties available starting with the basic version I am using at around $20 per bottle... you can go up to about double that.

Gives a nice firm feel and I challenge to make this fade from boiling fluid.

This is the whole range... and I will be moving to the RBF 660 next flush.
