good luck so unless the they get some diagnosis from the computer they can't fix it? Sounds like trial and error now.

Today VW said it will be about a week and a half to remove the engine head and clean the valves. Don't know if that is going to fix it though. I'm now waiting for a call from the dealer principal.

Francis Mohammed, the dealer principle from South Yarra, has not rung me today, as he promised to do.

Still haven't received two promised callbacks from VW customer care either.

        Moral of the story?

Whilst VW make some great cars I believe they are let down significantly by their dealers in Aus.
I purchased my wife's Golf at this dealership and had it serviced there a couple of times, along with a couple of minor warranty issues but really didn't get a feeling they knew what they were doing. I'm reasonably mechanically inclined and some of the crap they sprouted was unbelievable. - similar to your 'melted spark plugs' comment.
The best thing I ever did was research a decent independent mechanic who specialises in VWs and have never looked back.
Unfortunately for you the car is still under warranty (I presume), so you really have no other option other than a dealership.
After hearing horror stories at other dealerships in the Melb metro area there isn't one I could recommend.

I sympathize with you. Seems they are not doing all they could and are not taking you seriously.

Don't know if this will help but perhaps do some reading if you haven't already

They offered me a loan car, with a $2500 excess even if other driver is at fault. I can't afford that. Then they offered a rental car with a $750 excess. Can't afford that either.

Ben, if I was you and I have had some pretty ****y experience with VW, I would be speaking to the dealership and saying that you will be invoking your right for a refund of the purchase price of the vehicle. You have given them sufficient opportunities and chances to repair the car but as of now, it is not fit for purpose and therefore, you are legally entitled to a refund due to the product not being fit for purpose/not complying with the product offered under the contract of sale. If you are willing to go through with that then great, even if you are not, then it should at least get the ball rolling for them to just finally replace the engine which is clearly defective. If I was you though, I'd just get your refund and get another car....

+1 gavs, well said, the satisfactory time period to repair his car has been given. That's why I sent Ben the info. on his consumer rights...

I spoke to consumer affairs and they said I can apply to have it heard by VTAC but it will be 3 months before it gets to court. And the law just states that it must be fixed in a "reasonable" amount of time.

For clarity, while it isnt part of the discussion on this problem, while you do need to let a dealer handle warranty claims, routine servicing and other work outside the dealer network will not affect your warranty. There are other threads on that subject on this forum to help steer you if you have a read.

Ben, get onto VWA and complain. Also tell them you want then to extend your Factory Warranty if they insist on fixing your car as you need time to test their fixes properly. As has been said above, I would suggest reading up on the lemon laws for what they are worth in Aus, tho while sadly I fear they might not find in your favour it may still be worth starting a claim discussion. A car at the dealer for this amount of time with no end date and no FREE loan car is not acceptable, you have a fully insured car sitting in their workshop etc and their product is not fit for purpose if they cannot diagnose and fix the problem. While the lack of dealership service is much the same as I suffered, dont worry(!) its more of an industry problem than a single brand issue ive found, amazing if youve ever done any work in retail to see and hear these stories - repeat business is king, unless you sell cars it seems.

So they e got the head off and today they're sending it to be cleaned. Apparently there's quite a bit of carbon buildup. Fingers crossed it fixes the misfire.

Thought there wasn't any carbon buildup in the intake manifold, yet somehow the head has so much they had to remove it and send it off for cleaning?!?! Mate, don't be surprised if it's just sitting in the service bay still completely assembled.

I'd still be talking refund to them, coming on 2 months after the problem was first brought to their attention under warranty, no courtesy vehicle as a replacement for you while they hold the car and they still haven't fixed it?! It should have just had a new motor put in it a month ago!

Put it this way, you didn't buy a car just to sit there so you can pay to drive a hire car because the car you bought doesn't work did you?
