  • Extended Warranties for the 6R

    Hi All

i know there are generic extended warranty threads but the main one is 70 pages and mostly out of date.

has anyone had to get an extended warranty on their 6R recently and have any pro tips?

i have a few months left of my factory warranty and im trying not to leave it to the last min to buy

from what ive read most people seem to like the allianz ones because they are easy to deal with.

are there any particular dealers that do great deals on them?

    any help would be appreciated.

    Kris.

Allianz and Swan do 2 years from $3000.

I got Swan through the dealer when I bought the car. For some reason they did third party instead of factory. Although when buying the car they gave it to me for $1000.

Either way, both payout to the market value of the car.

I think extended warranties are a waste of money. The ACCC has a write up governing them.

I think the clause was that the item of purchase was to last for a reasonable period of time. So a $30k car isn't going to stop working after 3 years or even 10. A $30 toaster might.

Is there a particular item or reason you need the warranty?

LOL your kidding yourself if you think VW are going to do warranty repairs 8-10 years down the track. And then good luck taking VW to court and proving to a judge what a 'resonable period of time is' whilst VW has their best 10 QC's up against you.

However VW do warrant the DSG for 5 years on cars until recently (search on here for more info)... with that in mind $3k would pay for quite a few repairs in that 24mths to help cover other issues, you might be lucky... just sayin...

Although I have a Passat Alltrack, I too have been looking into my options. So far I have been offered the below

2 year 5 star SWANN warranty (same a new car warranty) $1395 - this also includes roadside assist for 2 years. I was offered this after pushing that the drivetrain is still covered for 5 years. I was originally quoted $1595 for 2 years.

I'm not sure we'll get very far claiming the ACCC report etc. Unless of course someone has an example of a win? or maybe even a link to it?

3 k for 2 years is a bit much. My most recent purchase comes with 4 years after the factory 3 years for an extra 2.8k

For those interested, spoke with Swann today re extended warranty on 2015 Polo GTI manual

                  12 months = $1,130.00
                  24 months = $1,775.00
                  36 months = $2,405.00

Obviously the amount of kms ect. your car will do will effect pricing.

I negotiated in a Swann 2 year 5 star warranty for $1000 when ordering my 6C GTI. It seems to cover the same things as the factory warranty going by their information booklet.

                      Believe it or not

This week I was quoted $1465 by a broker (Kerry at Leaseworks) for an additional 3 years Allianz 'New Car Warranty'. My car is just under 12 months old, 6,500ks.

After reading its duty of disclosure statement in the pds (page 23) I decided to speak to Allianz about the mods. on my car, KW suspension, Milltek exhaust and different wheels (nothing else). Through an Allianz claims supervisor I was advised no problem with the wheels and cat back exhaust but because the car was lower than standard they would likely not pay out on ANY claim I made. I suddenly lost interest, can't see what lowering has to do with any drivechain warranty claim but she insisted such a claim would likely be rejected.

Just about to finish up out extended warranty. Very pleased and worth it seeing that I do over 1000km/wk. Sunroof failed and covered. Air con failed and covered. Rattle at rear seat belt covered. Now waiting for a valve for the egr which is covered.
Car has done 220,000km so far. Only issue has been servicing every 15 weeks. I might go to 20 weeks servicing and do it myself.
So do I run her into the ground or update?
