  • 2015 6C Polo - Beware the weak tinny roof!

Having owned my new Polo for just two weeks, I spent a couple of hours washing and waxing it. Afterwards I discovered the rows of dents down either side of the roof where I had leaned on it while working. I was pretty upset that I had just done that to a brand new car. I've never had it happen with any other car I've owned.

The paintless dent repair guy did a great job removing all sign of the dents - cost me $330.

Beware - aside from the edges above the doors, the roof is weak and tinny. From now on I'll be treating it like eggshell.

That would have been a shock for sure. It is a wide flat unsupported panel I guess and not designed to bear any weight, but the thing I was most surprised about was $330 for the PDR, can you PM me his contact details? in Sydney that amount of damage would be over 1k according to the guy who I spoke to recently and I have a couple motorcycle fuel tanks he might enjoy if its not Sydney money. Ta.

Interestingly Ive been surfing youtube for late model WRX info and found that the MY15 onwards Subaru bonnets have to be dropped rather than pressed closed as they will dent if pushed past the springs to latch shut. Seems car panels are getting thinner n thinner...

Kills two birds with one stone... Reduces fuel consumption (less weight) and increases profits (less metal)!

As an aside, I've found the 6R bodywork to be quite substantial. Yeah the roof can be (temporarily) bent when pushed on but to me the metal seems to be fairly thick. Has this changed for the 6C?

Haven't noticed any denting on my late '15 Polo and I've always commented on how quiet it is - much quieter than our mk7 Golf
