Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A mate of mine bought one of these for his golf R mk6 and it fits like factory. It even looks like it will fit the Polo but it is ever so slightly different.

An Evo gauge fitted to a 3D printed vent pod. The pod came from a fella in South Africa ("dan46tex on the vwpgti.co.za is selling the 3D printed vent pods") - links are on this page, I'm interested too so let us know what you find out

Had a look at what the member is/was selling, you will need to sign up first and then go back to this link
VW PGTI Owners SA • Login

Price is/was good, about 1100Rand or $100 AU plus postage I expect, if he is still selling them!

I have not contacted the member because I don't think it's what I'm after, would also need to check if the 6C and 6R vents are the same.

Thank car_nut. Im looking more for a column or dash pod. Last car I put a gauge in the vent, I regretted it on 40 deg days.

I had vwr springs installed and 6R HP front and rear sway bars installed as well. The rear sway will have clearance issues with the muffler so I opted to go for a magnaflow muffler. Originally had a straight pipe res delete with the magnaflow but it rattled the inside of the car too much so I reinstalled the centre res and I personally love it. It is louder than stock but still very comfortable to drive.

On the way to the dealer I heard a noise which sounded like a spring being flicked (make sense?) Happend at about 2300 rpm range in 3rd gear at normal cruising/acceleration. Anyway turns the DSG clutch is ruined and they will be replacing it with a new clutch pack which VW released to hopefully address all these issues.
Yes I also had jolts and clunks from 2nd to 3rd, so fingers crossed it doesnt happen to you as well.

Sad to hear that, it's not the first that's happened to a vw. Speaking of which anyone driving a manual who finds engaging second gear "funny"? Almost like its stuck. Also finding that I hear a weird almost rattling noise from the engine in 2/3 between 2500 to 4000 rpm. Probs need to get it checked out especially when I'm now looking at mods.

I've read so many stories of the DSG in my13 or before, replacing clutch packs in the thousands, but 15k and the transmission needs major repairs? not good.

Really wanted a auto, so might hold off and get a base model wrx cvt, I know completely different cars/transmissions but still I plan to keep this car for at least 10 years.

It's a shame, I do love the polo gti!!

Is it just me? For some strange reason my gti feels quicker with aircon on.

                      "VTEC YO!?!"

Is the Polo clever enough to switch off the aircon compressor for short bursts of WOT? My old 206 GTi180 did this - clever design [emoji106]

Polo uses a variable AC compressor - unlike older-style systems, it's not either 'on' or 'off', rather it can vary how much refrigerant it is moving all the time. Makes driving with AC on much smoother than in the old 'on/off' designs because the compressor doesn't just suddenly engage and then disengage all the time while driving.
Further to your question, yes, the variable system will reduce refrigerant flow (therefore how much power the compressor is sapping from the engine) when the engine is put under load. Unlike the old systems though, it won't just turn off at WOT, it'll actually slowly reduce output as engine load increases. Clever!

$1700 landed. Took about an hour to fit.

It's actually quieter than the stock system with the resinator removed. Tone is much nicer, especially as the dsg changes gears.

All 6R and 6C GTIs have sound actuators. They're a speaker sort of thing behind the dash under the windscreen cowl. Won't be affected by altering the exhaust system.
