  • Where to start 6R Polo

    Hey guys.
Forgive me if this has already been covered earlier on.
I am fairly new to the forum scene and even newer to the European car scene.
As you can see from the title, I have a 6R polo GTI. I have worn it in with a fair few KM now, and i want to start making some more ponies.
I have come from JDM where literally every major tuning center and parts provider can supply you with parts for your car.
I have noticed that the Euro market is a little different.
I was hoping if anyone can help me with
    a) finding a store/site/distributors for parts and/or tuning
    b) any suggestions for preferred brands.
Like stated earlier, completely new to European market.
    I live in Sydney NSW.
Any help would be much appreciated

The turbo/supercharged engine in the 6R isn't known for its reliability, especially in our climate. There's a reason they dumped it and went pure turbo in the 6C

You are forgetting that the twincharger is still in production and in current Tiguans and Jetta's.

Engine is fine as long as it has all the factory updates. Mine is up around 225 hp now up from 180 hp and still going strong. The big difference with modding euro cars compared to JDM is that there is no cheap mods to get any real performance increases. Some Eibach or H&R lowered springs is where I would start and the maybe a cold air intake and bigger intercooler before you get a tune. GFB DV+ is about the cheapest worth while mod you can do.

Thanks for the help mate. Would you happen to know of any places to get parts from?
Springs i have been able to get a hold of from a supplier in Sydney. But parts like intercoolers i am a bit lost on where to get them from

I am in the same boat as you with finding parts for my polo GTI. It is a mission but that's half the fun! Ignore the ones saying you should sell the car and move on.. The GTI polo's are a fast, fun car to drive. Like any car on the road - if you look after it then it will look after you.

I started out last year on the same journey with my A1 after I'd put a few k's on it and gotten the first service done just for the peace of mind - I jumped right in the deep end and went from stock to Stage 2+ over a few months.

Because I came pretty late to the party, I didn't have the choice of going 'full APR' / 'HP' like a few of the guys here. I had to do a bit of reading and find out what worked and stitch together a bit of a Frankenstein of brands and parts. But I'm happy I did, I even feel like the car might be better off for it.

I'm running a mix of APR, HP, VWR, Milltek, Wagner, Bilstein, GFB, Momo.

All the parts in my sig block should fit your Polo and I managed to source them all in the 2nd half of last year. Let me know if you want any links or anything.
