  • 2015 Polo GTI - centre console position in the manual

    Hi all,

I've recently purchased a new manual Polo GTI which is hopefully being delivered before the end of the year. I test drove the automatic before purchasing as they didn't have a manual in stock however when they do get a manual in, they're going to call me in to try it out. I've read in a couple of reviews (and also seen in pictures) that the centre console/armrest is close to the gear shifter.

Can any manual owners out there confirm whether this is an issue for them or just a minor inconvenience?

Was an issue for me on the first day but you can position it at an appropriate angle and you get used to shifting so overall just a minor inconvenience.

Manual shifts are silly smooth... You will be happy

I found it's alright for lazy driving, but if your wanting to shift fast and accurately it can get in the way.

The armrest just flips up. Just by the way, in the owners manual, it states that you shouldn't drive with the armrest down

IMO then why have an armrest that cant be used, why not have a centre storage compartment instead. If I put stuff in the storage area of the arm rest and flip it up then all the loose items rattle around. Hyundai i30 has a two tier centre storage compartment, one for larger items, the other for coins and stuff - clever. I also miss the small driver side storage compartment (Jetta) and lockable glove box (most cars).
