Wondering who switches this off? Or does it depend on the trip?

I keep mine off because the stop start traffic I am in isn't light to light. It's towards the end of the freeway and it's constantly turning off. Keeping a distance and rolling a lot helps but I find people keep cutting in front of the two car gap

Does the stop/start stay off permanently or does it need to be turned off each time the car is started to disable itMY19 Polo GTi 2.0 DSG

Can we disable via VAGCOM? The dealer won't do it as part of delivery but if I visit an APR specialist, they can code it to be null and void. Seems a PITA to me and, a mate who owns a Q7 3L TDI.

If people are wondering why it's set to on as default, it's because the system is directly related to the car's greenhouse rating (and fuel use/emissions). Pretty sure it's mandatory to have it on as default if the car is fitted with it.Alex Aescht

You are right alexaescht... The start/stop automatic doesn't just start/stop the engine, it is also responsible for charging and controlling the battery...
There is an option to build a micro-controller that automatically controls the button (like a memory function of last setting):
I haven't tried it myself, but sounds very plausible.
