  • Engine Stop/Start who leaves it on?

Wondering who switches this off? Or does it depend on the trip?

I leave mine on. I've noticed that it saves me enough fuel to warrant it's use.

I leave it on. but turn it off when needed, e.g., if turning into a busy intersection . i turn it off. then back on after that. if in a slow moving carpark. i turn it off.

I keep mine off because the stop start traffic I am in isn't light to light. It's towards the end of the freeway and it's constantly turning off. Keeping a distance and rolling a lot helps but I find people keep cutting in front of the two car gap

Creeping with the brake on lightly is the best way to stuff a 7spd DSG

Does the stop/start stay off permanently or does it need to be turned off each time the car is started to disable it

Every time after you start the engine. Is pretty hard if at all possible to disable it permanently

Can we disable via VAGCOM? The dealer won't do it as part of delivery but if I visit an APR specialist, they can code it to be null and void. Seems a PITA to me and, a mate who owns a Q7 3L TDI.

I hate it - it's he first thing I do when I start the ignition - switch it off!

If people are wondering why it's set to on as default, it's because the system is directly related to the car's greenhouse rating (and fuel use/emissions). Pretty sure it's mandatory to have it on as default if the car is fitted with it.

You are right alexaescht... The start/stop automatic doesn't just start/stop the engine, it is also responsible for charging and controlling the battery...
There is an option to build a micro-controller that automatically controls the button (like a memory function of last setting):

I haven't tried it myself, but sounds very plausible.
