  • 2015 Polo GTI Engine Oil Capacity

    I have a question;

    I was looking everywhere to find how much oil goes in the new 1.8 tsi engine and I can't find the figures anywhere.

    So if someone knows how many litres goes in the engine please let me know.

    Thanks

    3.8L, off the top of my head.

    I'd start with 3.5 though.

      My gen 1 EA888 1.8tsi takes 4.5L with filter. Maybe the newer ones have a smaller sump?

      Even though i know this & have changed the oil many times I still pour in about 3.5L, check the dipstick, add a big splosh and repeat the process until it's at the top of the mark. Then I run it & check again.

          I can almost guarantee that if you put 5.4L in it will be about 20mm above the top mark... or you are dislexic

            On further research, I would go with 4.5L.

            At the very most.

              Oil and filter changed recently -
              Measured very carefully and VERY accurately what came out - 6.1 litres!! (from factory).

              Refill - kept topping it up slowly, running motor in between, took 5.7 litres (same as the Golf 7 GTI) and it was still below the cross hatch, also uses the same oil filter and plastic sump plug as the Golf 7.

              Dip stick level before change was about 4-5mm above the cross hatch and just past the upper flange/bend. Anyone else got this oil level on their dip stick from 'factory'?????

              The oil level after change, with a good run and left 1 hour, was 1 or 2 mm above the cross hatch with 5.7 litres added.

              I would suggest 5.5 litres and re-check after a good run and waiting for oil to drain into sump.

                5.5L?

                What a pain when it comes to purchase time.

                  Just buy two 5L bottles and you'll have plenty of oil for top ups.

                    2015 Polo GTI Engine Oil Capacity

                    I'm with Car_Nut on this one. My baby just consumed 6L of Castrol's finest 5W30 504/507. This included a filter change.

                    1) Knowing Umai Naa!! is/was a VW tech, I safely poured in 4.5L (as above) and it just started to show at the very bottom of the dipstick. Ran the engine for a short time then shut it off. No oil showing on dipstick after 60secs.

                    2) Poured in remaining 0.5L of the big bottle. The oil level then was still below the required 'cross hatch' section on the dipstick.

                    3) Ran engine, shut off after 1min. Oil level remained the same, as per above.

                    4) Grabbed the matched 1L bottle of oil, poured half in. Oil level halfway up suitable dipstick level.

                    5) Poured remaining 500ml in. Perfect result. Dipstick showing level about 1-2mm short of the top of cross hatched section of the dipstick. As per VW, that is "spot on" as read in the manual.

                    Very different setup to my old Mk6 GTI;
                    * Pain in the arse plastic shield needs to be removed to access sump plug
                    * Plastic sump
                    * Plastic sump plug
                    * Plastic oil filter housing with cartridge filter now

                    Not a bad way to spend a Friday night!

                    And yes, more that 6L was sitting in the oil pan after draining. The factory has FAR more oil put in than required in their engines.

                        Thanks Mi16 Man, nice to know that my Polo was not the only one that was well and truly filled with oil ex factory.

                        It's so nice to own a VW that consumes zero oil.
