Hey guys. Just wondering if I'm about to go the right way with my intentions for my my13.5 gti.

I'm looking at getting a ecu and dsg tune done from apr in september. Now I spoke to someone there about getting a TB exhaust from Miltek and was quoted $ 3000 is that about standard? Should I go with those guys or look at getting a custom system made? Also from my understanding of the tunes and how they work if I do go for a supplier outside of apr I should have the system installed before getting the ecu done, is this a must or just a good idea? I'm also looking at getting some better pads and fluid for the little rocket as the current (stock) ones suck! SOOOOOOOO much dust... any suggestions here will be much appreciated. Lastly is anyone around the brisbane gold and sunshine coasts keen to assist me with some VCDS changes as I have no idea what I'm doing and don't really want to buy the cable (yet anyway).

    Thanks heaps for your help/advice.

$3000 for a Milltek full exhaust is about right. You may be able to source one cheaper from the UK via ebay, but keep in mind that you will have to pay a few hundred dollars in import GST when it arrives in Australia. Jetex is another brand that make exhausts for the Polo GTI.

As for brake pads, i would recommend Remsa. Brakes Direct in QLD sell them, and ive had them on 2 of my cars and they are excellent. Far less dust than the stock pads, and brakes wont send you though the windscreen when you barely touch the pedal.

You can get the exhaust installed either before or after the tune is done. If you install it before, you may get a CEL (check engine light) on your dash, as the car will think the catalytic convertor is faulty (as the new exhaust is more free flowing). The CEL can easily be cleared with VCDS or the APR dealer can do it.

If you get the exhaust installed after the tune is done, that's ok also, but i would just advise that you don't flog the heck out of the engine while the stock exhaust is still in place.

The stock exhaust is restrictive (especially the 2x dense factory cats) and the tune will be requesting more boost than standard, which means the turbo is spinning faster and pushing more air out the exhaust. In the short term, or at lower engine speeds it would be ok, but if you were to drive the car like that for months etc or take it to a racetrack and flog the life out of it, you could end up overheating the turbo or possibly other engine damage.

Talking with APR in November last year that price for the Miltek is correct. Also highly recommend the ECU tune!!! It changes the car dramatically.

So are you saying that a stage 1 car with a stock exhaust long term will damage your car?

Yeah... that sounds a bit extreme.

Not at all. The OP is talking about a tune to suit a turbo back exhaust - therefore a stage 2 tune. This level of tune is meant to run with an aftermarket high flowing dump pipe. A full exhaust is not necessary, but the dump pipe is required.

A stage 1 tune is designed to work with the cars factory exhaust/intake etc.

Thanks heaps for the advice guys. Looks like she'll be spending the night with the APR boys 😆.

Is there anyone who could help with the VCDS side of things? I'm willing to pay and I want to learn it but I'm a hands on learner not so good with these books and readin' and such lol.

If not then I guess I'll just see if I can afford the money for the cable.

Lastly does anyone know if the my13.5 can have auto dip mirrors activated

If you can learn it, I have the equipment. No idea about your car and the changes available. I'm on Brisbane's southside, you're welcome to PM when the time comes. There's not much available to change on the 9N's and only one thing I want to change on one of mine.

I'd imagine you'd be looking for adaptation modules... eg http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...al_Electronics for the 9n. A quick search didn't show 6R modules.
