front passenger footwell swimming pool

In the last fortnight i have noticed a damp smell inside car.

After ignoring it for a week or so, i decided to look into it.

Turns out there is a puddle of water in the centre of the front passenger footwell.

Took it back to dealer, thinking it was coolant as level was below minimum. Turns out they reckon it was a kinked window seal. They dried car out and so i took it to a carwash to test if it was fixed.

Upon returning from carwash, floor was wet again.

Dried it out overnight.

Took car to work. Came back home after 10 hours. Water again in footwell.

this time i have left floor mats in situ so moisture remains so dealer can see for themselves.

The only common thing is that the air con has been used whilsy driving!!!

Could this be the cause?
How would i test?
Or does any one have had that issue and got it fixed?
Any suggestions?

Sun roof? Drains could be blocked. Same goes for the air con drain.

Also, has it ever had a windscreen replaced in it? May not have been correctly bonded.

Make sure there are no leaves blocking the drains behind the strut towers. If they are blocked, water can come in through the fresh air intake.

Many years ago I had a Torana, and had much the same problem with it. It turned out that the plastic sheet that is clued to the door frame behind the trim panels had come loose at the top and fallen against the door outer skin. Any rain that made it past the sil seal was nicely diverted inside the car. This plastic sheet did not have a part number and was pretty bad, so I got a heavy duty bin liner and cut and glued a new piece. No more leaks.

It is always an issue with leaks. Where the water comes in can be very different to where the leak starts.

Car has no sun roof
Just went out to check now... no leaves blocking draining.
It is also now damp in the centre of drivers footwell too around heel pad in carpet.
