Blow off Valve Kit - is it worth it?

Hey guys,

Just been scrolling through a bunch of builds and what not, found a link to this blow off kit for the 1.2 TSI.
I was wondering if this was the best path for either performance or tone; or am I better off doing more to my exhaust? (Currently rear muff delete). Appreciate the help, and completely open to suggestions. Cheers.

I got one and I can say this - no, it's not really worth it - well from a performance aspect. I got it becuase I was concerned with the turbo fluttering with my higher boost (now running 18psi in my 1.2) but becuase of the position of the blow off valve (after the turbo) it has a delayed response and thus doesnt prevent what I got it for. If you want it for the "chhhhh" it does that fine.

Engine or exhaust note won't chnage at all with an intake mod like this

No no no no no no.

Blow of valves cannot operate as quickly as what is put onto the cars from factory so please, for the sake of damage limitation to your car (aside from the daft noise they make) do not put blow off valves on modern VW engines, they are pointless.
Plus most people I have spoken to with these kind of forge products on tuned polos have had nothing but bad things to say.

Actually to add to Gavs argument - though I "would" agree 100% of the time with Gavs on this, it has to be noted that the 1.2tsi is the only turbocharged VW engine to not have a DV of any kind. As it stands the BOV is better than stock (only becuase it acts like a DV but vents instead of recirculate) but as I said becuase of its position away from the turbo it still flutters so really it's operation is more or less pointless - except the sound of your into that thing

One thing people seem to forget is that despite the turbo on these engines been the size of an orange it is still quite a big turbo (well where you would expect it to be) for its displacement - that been 1.2l. Why don't they have a DV? Becuase the turbo "is" small by comparison to other 2L+ engines and as such it has low weight and inertia and as such compressor surge is greatly "reduced" (to safe levels - but not eliminated) becuase the back pressure can slow the turbine down (unlike bigger turbos where you get the wut tut tut as it chops the air). At stock these engine run 14psi from 1500 and can max out at 22 which is a fair bit from somthing so small - by comparison

^ are you sure they run 14+ PSI stock? I thought it was 5-6PSI as thats what DNA Tuning quote on their dyno/power graphs for the 77TSI.

Thanks for the response guys. I had a gut feeling that the BOV wouldn't be too much of a popular mod, since I haven't seen it featured on this forum so much.

So the alternative is...

I've been quoted by Rob Bliss exhausts for a 4 inch aluminised resonator. Would this be a decent addition to my rear muffler delete? A lot of my mates were suggesting a 100-cel cal, but then again I was reading about the engine light being a bit of an issue if the car hasn't been reflashed. The other option that was suggested was a complete straight through system. This is my first car, and I haven't had a lot of experience, so I appreciate any suggestions! Cheers.

Without a tune mate you can only do exhaust work past the cat. Even 200 cell cats will throw a CEL. Really it comes down to this - it's a 1.2L and as a result it has very little displacement to make noise from (if that makes since). My friends 2L camry with a slightly smaller rear exhaust makes twice the sound that my rear muffler deleted 1.2 does.

Had it done after owning my 1.2 for a month and enjoyed it for 3 years before selling her, subtle increase to sound, legal, great DSG fart
