    • Since the battery has been moved to the rear and the boot is now only 200L, does anyone know if the hatch cover can still be stored under the spare wheel cover as in the standard Polo?

Wow I never even knew you could do this in the standard Polo... (/runs to go try it out ... oops it's raining outside ... another time)

        Interested to know this too!

        • Yep, video reviews show it done and sales person at FTG said it was standard on Polo BUT was unable to show me on the Gti (difference between talking and actually doing), so I am curious to see if VW has thought of it for the Gti since they have taken up the space for the battery.

I have not tried this myself but the luggage compartment cover for the GTI can be stowed behind the rear seat backrests. A diagram (page 129 of the owner's manual) shows it fitting quite neatly there, it needs to be turned so that straps are at front and backrests need to be released before it is fitted and then backrests secured again. Hope this helps.

Mine stays permanently out the car with the rear seat backs folded flat with the base of the rear seats removed from the car - for carrying golf equipment.

              • Car_Nut, can you take a pic (I am a golfer)
Wouldn't mind seeing how this looks as this might sway me to a new GTi instead of a larger size hot/very warm hatch or Octavia RS

Enough room for 2 sets of clubs, 2 buggies (one powered), just. Same as old Polo.

                    • My mate fits enourmous amounts of house renovating materials into his Polo. They are tardis-like.

                      • I am one of the lucky ones to have road tested one of these pocket rockets and I have to say I could not smiling .

It was amazing the 0 to 50km/h acceleration just made me want to drive round the corners a lot more.
I could not believe how firm the suspension was over little potholes and manhole covers with every bump being felt through the steering wheel - it was not to intrusive actually reminded me of the Karmann Ghia a bit. The steering was very precise and you could easily have lots of fun in this Polo. The stop/start I have to say was not intrusive and worked well when wanting to accelerate briskly.
The only negative I could see is the tiny boot bar folding seats down.

Thanks to Sam Langman @ Solitaire Hawthorn for the test drive

ps ATM its No.1 on my shortlist of next VWs that said its the first of the 4 VWs I want to drive Golf Alltrack, Tiguan II and Caddy IV before I buy for my 30th in 2016.

I fit 2 bicycles in the boot once. Seats folded down, wheels taken off. Awesome. Couldn't fit a single baby pram though (boot hatch opening too narrow)

                          • Boot space is my primary concern, coming from a Jetta with a cavernous boot. The Golf Gti has a bigger boot but still will need the seats folded down for my required space. Alternative is the Skoda Octavia RS which is cheaper than a Golf Gti. Both Golf and Skoda is unfortunately $10k more

Hmmm yeah you would want to think very carefully before getting the Polo then.

                              • Picked up my White Manual with Lux and DA Pack last week. Haven't been able to stop smiling while driving . The manual box is an absolute beauty. I was driving a borrowed auto S-line A1 1.4 TFSI Sport for a little while prior to last week and the polo suspension actually feels very gentle & luxurious compared to that but still is firm where required if cornering at speed. will have to line the Audi and the Polo up against each other
