The oil consumption seems to be negligible. Have driven about 600kms since I had the car and oil levels has barely moved. Having said that, the colour of the oil is pretty dark brown as it's due for a service in 3-4 months.

Is it worth topping it up or should I look at a mechanic to drain the old oil and refill fresh?
    Thanks

A different question. I'm keen to sell my Polo GTI, it'll be 3 years old..... Gf is wanting to sell it privately and I take it since equiped contacted VGA with the VIN and asked all the details. Could a private buyer also ask what warranty work had been done to the car. Hence the thought of being nervous about buying a second hand car by llai8501?

Hello mate, VGA don't keep a record of the car unless there is a recall. My reason for calling VGA was to ascertain whether recall work had been performed on the car I was looking at, which they confirmed. They said the car was recalled and all necessary work performed and certified ok. They wouldn't give me any more details.

As I was interested in recall status only, I was satisfied with the answer. Hope it helps.

But wouldn't all that was done to my car be recorded under warranty repairs? 2x clutch, 2x pistons, oil consumption tests the list goes on. Couldn't a private buyer supply VGA the VIN and ask for all those details?

Not according to VGA. I persisted and insisted as much as I could, but they wouldn't provide any more info saying it's not my car. To that, I replied, well in order for me to buy this used car, surely VGA must help by providing all the info, to make my decision making easy...but to no avail.

Lemonskin, it is a stock standard candy white 5 dr. No mods so haven't uploaded any pics yet. 3yrs old with no scratch on body or wheels. It is optioned with Bi Xenons, leatherette seats and RCD 510 audio (without the BT dongle).

Have managed to upload a pic to my profile but doesn't show upload button when I insert the pic in this post

Hmmmm I'm looking at one up in Cairns. It's a 2011 GTI or a 2014 Trendline... About the same price...

trive2, here's my experience: I am enjoying the GTI a lot and would have regretted if I had gone for a 77TSI instead. And this is despite the fact that most of my travel is in peak hour bumper to bumper traffic. However, the little bit of chance I get to drive spiritedly at off peak hours, it more than makes up and puts a smile on my face.

My GTI is using approx. 400ml of oil every 1000kms so not as bad as some but could be an issue with the MY11 you are looking at. Other than that, I have been lucky enough to not have other problems. I did experience DSG shudder for a couple of weeks and took it straight in to the dealer who did a reset and since then it has been faultless. I also get the Allianz 3yr new car warranty on it so I should be covered (hopefully) if something big comes up.

I reckon you will be happy with either...just that you *may* be happier with the GTI. Make sure the 2nd hand GTI you get, has extra options like xenons, heated seats and at least RCD510.

                          Hope this helps.

Hey equiped, regarding the DSG shudder, do you know what software update was performed on your car.
