  • Just bought a MY12 Polo GTI...UNSEEN

This one is going to be an interesting experience as I have just bought a car unseen from Port Macquarie (I live in Sydney). MY12 Polo GTI with just under 30,000 kms. Now, I am well aware of the oil consumption and DSG issues so I have read up as much as I could.

Never owned a VW before and I called VW Customer Care, gave them the VIN number and they said servicing, recall have been completed. There is no outstanding service on the vehicle. (I don't think I can attach a $ value to that statement lol)

So, the main issue is the way some of these finance companies work. I took out a finance through BMW Finance and towards the later end, I asked if I could have a bank cheque instead of them depositing the money prior to me going and picking up the car. They said they don't have such a facility...bummer!

Situation now is that the money will be transferred over to the dealer today (23 May) and I go to Port Macquarie tomorrow to pick it up. I guess a final inspection / test drive is pointless.

The only thing that I have as a backup is, possibly, the 3 months statutory warranty that used cars come with (if bought from a dealer).

    What I need from here?
Advise on key things to check for while picking up the car.

    Thanks
From a very nervous entrant to the VW world

Man really should have organized a state roads and revs check... I'd be very nervous buying these vehicles second hand.

You are a VERY brave person to buy a second hand polo GTI, let alone sight unseen.

There really isn't much you can do now other than suck-it-and-see... You might be lucky, you might also be very unlucky......

Yeah...I don't normally do such stupid stuff...but hey, its happened

Anyway, car is great...with not a single scratch anywhere. Drove it back from Port Macquarie to Sydney and it consumed 22 litres (followed the speed limits).

Have driven it approx. 600kms since Saturday morning and so far no noise or creeks or engine oil light yet. Will see how long that lasts. Otherwise, couldn't have been happier with the condition of the car.

Don't wait for the oil light to wake you up...check the dip stick every day after you drive it.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have gone in with my eyes (oil check) and ears (rattles and slipping clutch) open. So, if it turns ugly, I have the information at hand to tackle the issue immediately.

On a side note, still waiting for Sydney weather to turn cold so I can enjoy the heated seats hahaha

I also have those seats and they're great in winter.

Can't wait to try them when it's cold ATYPIC. Mrs already tried it on a drive, as it helped her get rid of back pain...
