Awesome, looks like it'd be a fun little package. Hopefully it'll be made in RHD and VWA brings it over here, considering how 'streamlined' they've gotten recently .

If it uses a dry clutch box...run...run for your life. No central pipe exhausts? yuck!

Technically that's not the official yet (despite what the article professes), we'll see at the Geneva Auto Show (that's if Volkswagen Gmbh actually release the Polo R in a production format). They may be complete spanners and mule the R to a new dry clutch model gearbox

A full-blown R version of the Volkswagen Polo has been confirmed for production off the back of the car’s success in the World Rally Championship.

I've seen plenty of articles from Drive / TMR etc reporting a new vehicle would go into production yadda yadda ya and yet it didn't happen. Until there is an official press release from VW Gmbh and its displayed on the Geneva Auto Show vehicle display dates and vehicle listings (paid subscribers / auto dealers / manufacturers can see this). Then its all hogwash.

Also while it may go into production it is likely to be only a limited run like the current Polo WRC model or EU market only.
Happy to be proven wrong though as more cheap alternatives with a 2.0T 4Mo (Polo, Tiguan etc) make for good purchases.

If this is significantly less than the new Golf R i may trade up.

Should be a good little package if it eventuates. It runs the MK6 GTI engine which is pretty robust and reliable, and the DQ250 DSG which is much more reliable than the DQ200. The AWD system will be the same/similar as used in the Golf R so once again a reliable setup.

The million dollar questions is......will there be a manual gearbox available? The Audi A1 Quattro was manual only as far as i know.

                          I'd ballpark it at ~43k

I think it will only be available as a manual if it does actually come out, the fear of that though is you can kiss an Australian RHD version goodbye as VWAG would assume most people would want a DSG only.

Again we don't know for fact that this car will go into "full" production or "limited". Price? Easy knowing VWAG's explosive pricing I'd take a guess at 45-47k.
