  • DSG Gearbox oil recall

Hey anybody else had the 2013 DSG gearbox oil recall done? I had mine done about a week ago now. Pre-recall I was actually really happy with how the gearbox behaved, rarely any clunks etc.

Post recall the gearbox definitely seemed jerkier and clunkier, dropping the clutch more especially when in heavy traffic in D mode. I don't know if its my imagination but over the last week it seems that the clutch dropping and clunky changes have gotten a bit better, I thought the recall was a simple oil change but it seems thet they did something to the mechatronics as well. Possibly they reset it or loaded up a new program but hopefully it's just re-learning and will go back to the way it was operating initially.

Anybody else had it done? Have you noticed any difference pre and post recall?

The ecu was more than likely reset. My car had the recall 2 weeks back and I have the same issue. It will get better over time.

Hope it gets better. I got the mech replaced (35c1) and it has never driven so bad in its life! Even more dropping of clutches, and extremely hard to engage going up hills.

Was about to go back around the block and abuse them but they had allready quickly closed up...

Contact the dealership where the work was done, voice your concerns and find out what else they did besides change the gearbox oil.

As stated, there was probably a reset done, so it will have to "relearn" your driving style.

I am getting my car done on Monday.

I think its accompanied with a software update.

Is a software update necessary if the DSG has been behaving itself?

Anyway, the DSG will relearn your driving style in time.

UPDATE: Had the recall job done today on my 77TSI Polo, transmission oil changed, software upgrade was NOT required.

When was your 77TSI made? Perhaps my DSG had older software so they updated it but to be honest the older software seemed better :S

Anybody use the Harding Performance DSG tune? I didn't think I needed it before but now I'm kinda hoping it will remove some of the clunkiness, that it's supposed to stop clutch wear issues somehow is a bonus too...

It's a MY 13.5, I recall seeing a label which states build date Feb 2013.

The new recall for MY2013 models do not include a software update. Only the oil is changed from synthetic to mineral.

If you did receive a software update it would probebly be the 37g7 update which is generally applied across all models. New models "should" have it pre applied but apparently VW sucks when it comes to updating production runs.

I recently got the 35c1 recall which apparently includes new Mech, Oil and a software update.

Now I didn't get the update (it's not stated on the invoice) but this could be becuase I got the 37g7 update way before.

I would like to hear from other people who have done this recall and who did/didn't get the update. I'm not sure if the dealer I went to is incompetent or it genuinely didn't need it.

If you had the Mechatronic recall the oil SHOULD have been changed and listed on the invoice as mine was.
It stated the part number for the unit and next line was the oil with the mineral part number

Would you expect a MY14 Golf 1.4TSI with DSG, built 1st week of October, to be subject to any of the current recalls? I collect the above car later in the week and would like to know if anything needs doing prior to delivery?

Probably not but you will be in the right place to ask the man. IF you have the vin put it in the searcher
