  • Polo GTI 6R stock ride height?

    Hey guys,

Wondering what the stock ride height of the front and back of the GTI? I've been googling and can't seem to find anything.

The Weitecs are scrubbing slightly at high speed when turning or during some bad roads at speed.

Trying to figure out how much I should raise the car.

I'll measure it tomorrow and see what it is now but I'm not sure how it's measured!

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks guys!

    For reference:

I measured mine last week before I fitted 18" wheels -
    Stock ride height 2013 Polo
Arch height to ground Front: 635mm
Arch height to ground Rear: 668mm

I measured vertically from the ground up through the centreline of the wheel to the lip of the guard.

    I find the thread -

    very helpful

'bigfoot' please measure and update your ride heights when you get a chance

Your car doesn't even look very low - its probably just the offset of your wheels that's scrubbing when you hit a bump or go through a corner fast.

Can you explain what this means? And as the scrubbing is light and occasional when driving hard or bumpy am I at risk of much damage?

My friend suggested raising it 5mm and seeing it it helps.

            Thoughts?

Is that measuring from the arch to the top of the tyre?

Looking online people seem to measure from the ground to the arch in line with the wheel cap.

              Thoughts?

Sorry - mabye i should have explained more clearly. What i meant was that its not like your car is super low/slammed or anything. So wondering why its scrubbing? Your aftermarket rims might not be the optimum offset (offset meaning how far they stick out from the hub) and this (combined possibly) with the width of tyre you are running might be your problem.

Do you know what offset your rims are? And what width tyre are you running?

                  Thanks for the clarification!

That would be from wheel arch to centre of wheel.

My corresponding standard wheel/tyre/suspension measurements were front 343mm (just inside spec) and back 370mm. I expect every std. Polo GTI is different.

                    Thanks Gavs.

depending on what size tyre you have, you could either be scrubbing on the arch lining near the center screw at the top of the arch, the inside front of the lining (i.e. inside of right wheel when turning left) or the protrusion where the front bumper meets the arch (there is a small protrusion and i believe a screw holding the two together. (i have recently found this point to be what is chewing the very outside corner of my tires. this should be fixed by either raising the car a little (boooo!!) or changing the tyre size from a current 215/35r18 to a 205/40r18. the small amount of extra stretch will provide more clearance, or removing the 10mm spacers)

i would suggest jacking up one corner, removing the wheel and checking the lining for scrubbing, once you have found this, the solution may become clearer

for reference my setup atm is 18x7.5 et28 (all-round) front sitting (if i remember correctly) 595-605mm

                        Thank you!

I'll be inspecting this all carefully and probably run it by the group meeting for #Polofest2013 this Saturday!

I'm scheduled to have a suspension check at Pedders (complimentary 1000km check post install) and they'll raise it whatever I need so they'll hopefully look at it and be able to tell me where the scrub comes from. Planning a 5mm-10mm raise on the fronts at this stage which is what I was planning to create an even stance since the back is sitting higher than the fronts right now!

                          no worries man.
i have scrubbed all wheels somewhere at some point, so i know how you feel every time you hear it lol. the other guys should be able to provide some help at the meet, or at least give suggestions. and keep the rake!! its what you want, just make sure the rear is never lower than the front (known as commodore stance, or commorake and not what you want on a euro... or anything really lol)
