  • VWR Air filter

    Hey guys,

I am new to this forum. I have a GTI since July 2013 and have two questions )
At first. I have 5000 km on it and 1/2 liter of oil used????
Second. Already installed VWR cat-back exhaust and they gave VWR panel (cone) air filter as a present. Do I have to put it in??? Some are for it, some not???? Any ideas. They are saying...you will damage MAF, dust is going to the engine. But bloody hell, why those companies sell air filters whom can damage engine for 100 USD????? )))
    Thanx guys for reply.
    Jerry

some engine consume oil, some don't, that rate is not concerning as long as your exhaust pipe is dry/sooty

The K&N air filter is meant to provide superior air filtration so dust should not be an issue
The problem is the K&N air filter needs to have oil applied to it
If you apply too much the excess will get sucked in and can damage your MAF ($230~$250)
I've been running a K&N for 18,000 and have not had a problem (Skoda Octavia 2L)

Pretty sure the VWR panel filters (which are made by Pipercross BTW) are un-oiled.

I thought the VWR filters did have oil but meh

Also adding too much oil to the filters in these cars doesn't matter. VW cars (turbo, not NA) don't use MAF sensors of any kind (hot wire, cold wire or gate). They use MAP (manifold air pressure) sensors (one before the butterfly valve and one at the inlet manifold) they work by measuring the pressure along with a temperature probe to measure air density / volume.

The reason they use this is because these engines natural have a lot of oil vapor coming out the PCV valve which would clog up a MAF in no time

          Hey guys,
Thank you for replies!the filter is lightly oiled. 3 layers of foam. Like you mention, made by Pipercross or ITG. I will put it in!! Or I have a chance to switch it for KN???
Oil usage, I will continue checking the level. My mechanic said to change oil every 10000 km.

Already installed and its great, faster turbo spin and better sound of VWR exhaust! Instalation easy. Now the VWR sport springs are on the way to me!
