Can anyone recommend? Brand name and Part No? Cost and where did you purchase it?

BMC quote a cylindrical one -
Code: FB576/08 Cylindrical

while K&N quote a flat type -
33-3004 - K&N Replacement Filters, Replacement Air Filter direct from K&N

Which is correct? I have not opened the air box yet because I need to purchase a Torx scewdriver size T15? or T20?

Not willing to go the full cold air intake yet.

Not sure about TSI & TDI's but GTI's (im thinking itd be the same....?) have cylindrical filters.

This is the correct K&N one if you wanna replace stock filter. The BMC one is correct

VW Racings seem to suggest the cylindrical one as well (VWRP J004), even though they still call it a panel filter ?? Seems odd!

Thank you all for your info. Has anyone heard of ecu errors registering after a change to these higher flow filters? and would anyone like to hazard a guess as to the size of the Torx screws on the air box. The VW tool kit one is a T25 and 30 which is too big.

There will be no error as there will be no more air going in to the engine compared to stock filter. There will be zero increase in performance, only slightly better induction noise and you get the 'bonus' of being able to clean and reuse it

Cold air intakes can increase performance, but cone replacements are only good for slightly better dsg blurts

You can get handy little torx bit sets that have 6 or so bits of different sizes for fairly cheap. <$20 & you will probably use some of the other sized bits at some stage on other components...

Haha lets not start a war (like what has happened in many other threads) but chaging to a high flow air fillter will give more volume and thus power BUT the power gains are pretty much not existent. At best it's 1kw/5nm, throttle response will be slightly better as well. The fact is the less restricting the filter is the less vacuum you have on the intake - and less vacuum is less turbo lag amongst other things

Don't think that just changing the filter will show big gains because it won't, that's what a CAI is for - sort of

At the crank you might see that if you are lucky, running at sea level on a cold, humid day the biggest gains you get from most aftermarket filters are induction noise and more crap getting sucked through due to the more open construction method.

Just some info for you all, when I was part of the Soarer scene, one of the guys did a full-on test of a whole lot of different filters from panels, pods and cones, paper, foam and oiled etc and long story short, the supposed "best" aftermarket filters not only let through the most dust, but actually flowed WORSE than the factory paper filters.

For induction noise and or convenience of long life, go the filter. For performance, intake and tune.

Nope, but that's one of the trade offs you take with the extra breathing capacity of the cai's.
