  • Wife's new Polo Blue GT arrives (Long post - Pic heavy)

Hi all, as promised from my thread a few weeks ago, on Saturday we picked up the wife's new Polo Blue GT, and an absolute cracker it is. We asked the supplying dealer not to prep it in anyway, and whilst a little dismayed, they stuck to their word and Whilst the car was dirty (having been in their compound for 3 weeks as we were on holiday), it was pretty much mark and swirl free, although the paintwork did feel like sandpaper

No before's I'm afraid as I only had the weekend to get it prepped and cleaned as well as carry out some modifications before the rain was due to arrive on Sunday afternoon.

    Method

Power washed to remove as much muck as possible.

Snow foamed using AF foam and left to dwell for 15 minutes whist I worked it in with a detailing brush in the nooks and crannies.

Rinsed, then washed with TBM, using Megs shampoo. Car then rinsed and then clayed all over (including windows) using bilt hamer soft clay using Megs last touch as a lubricant.
Washed again and rinsed. Complete car and wheels coated with Iron-X which removed vast amounts of fall out. Rinsed, then sprayed with Tardis to remove transport sheet glue and various tar spots.
Car then finally washed again and dried with my big thick drying cloths.

Paintwork was inspected and to my surprise, it was in really good nick with no scratches or swirls at all.

Went over the car with AF Tripple on a foam applicator pad, then gave it coats of GTechniq C2V3 Liquid Crystal (including alloys which were removed to seal on the inner faces). Trim dressed with Aerospace 303, and tyres with megs endurance tyre gel. Finally windows cleaned with Autoglym Fast glass inside and out.

So, onto the pictures (sorry, got a bit carried away).

Just one mod left and that's the stainless steel pedal caps which should be here later this week, then that's it.

If you made it to the end and didn't fall asleep I salute you. Sorry for such a large post, but this is our third Polo in a row and by a huge margin the most impressive and gorgeous. Thanks.

Great photos man, I love the Polo GT especially in 3 Door and it's exclusive colour. I wish it was available here!

Since you have xenons and auto wipers you might also want to add auto lights

          Thanks for the kind comments.

Yes, I'd love to add auto lights but thought it was quite expensive and horrendously complicated ?

Actually for you it's just a change of switch becuase you have the advanced lighting module that comes with the Xenons. With other cars its a lengthy process

            And mate looks bloody nice!

Sadly the lengthy process is only for the Xenon cars, non-Xenon Polos can't do it at all.

Does anyone have details on exactly what's involved for the auto lights please ?

Also, as I have to complete the wiring of the foglights this weekend, and you guys also drive on the correct side of the road () as us Poms, does anyone also know the easist route to run cables from the engine bay through the fire wall and into the cabin (preferably on the drivers side, but if not passenger side will do).

                Thanks a lot guys.

To the left of the brake pedal and slightly above there is a triangular cutout on the interior pading material. Behind this cutout is a black plug (shaped like a upside down key hole)about 3/4 inch that gives access to the engine bay(make sure you pull it out from the engine bay end as it may fall into the abyss if pushed out entirely from the interior). I just cut a hole into this grommet and passed my wires through that(and used some silicone for waterproofing),access from the engine bay end is a little tight but its a nice size opening in a convenient spot.

Great job with the detailing - you should put a copy of this first post in the cleaning detailing forum

A couple of questions on this

I thought the Bilt Hamber clays only needed water as the lubricant. Doesn't the detergent damage the clay?

                    What's fall out?

Finally, how long did it take you to do such a thorough job? The reflections are amazing!

To be honest, I didn't know about damaging the clay, but I only used a fairly small piece and new it was going to be sacrificial and thrown away afterwards anyway.

Fall out is all the ferrite contaminants that attach themselves to the paintwork (much more noticeable on a white car as what looks like little orange rust spots), and comes from railway sidings and the docks etc. as the car is transported or stored dockside. If left, it can etch into the clearcoat.

Total time from start to finish I guess was about 8 hours (over 2 days).

Dear God that is am amazing clean.

You make my wash and then spray on insta-wax feel badly inadequate.

I feel like i've been abusing my car..

Please excuse my off topic question, google isnt returning much for Australian reviews, what is a Polo GT and how does it compare to a GTI?

As you can see in the pics, its sort of like a 77Tsi and a GTI got it on, but with quite a few flairs that are only in the GT.
Just like the Polo R-line, you can't get it in Aus.
