    The warranty I purchased from a dealer is backed by Allianz. Contact your dealership and see what they can do for you.

        In general terms - and not talking about this specific car or it's worth - I would say that attempting to sell privately is less time/effort/cost than the $2k+ that you're guessing the gap will be between the dealer and private.

        That said, if the market was $15k, you're more likely to see $10k or below from experience, in which case it's well worth selling privately.
        Keep in mind the golden rules of dealing with dealers - end of the month (eg 27-31st July) is when they are most keen on making numbers, and they are more likely to be generous. Of course, End of Financial and end of Calendar years are even better.

          Thanks ill0gitech. That's pretty much the main thing that's stopping me from going "Yup, I'll definitely just trade it in". The price difference between what I can get for a trade in and the best price I can get on a private sale might be a lot more than $2k.

          But it all depends on what the market is like, and that's pretty much why I started this thread - to see what people, who are more in the know about the VW car market than I, think and get their/your opinions.

          As for dealing with the dealers, am getting the new vehicle through an old family friend, so have already secured deals there, but the trade in's are dealt by someone else at the dealership so the trade in value will be out of my friend's hands.

            At the end of the day, the car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

            Forget Redbook estimates, forget the market, this car's reputation has taken a beating of late and this is why you should sell privately.

            You will get stitched privately but even moreso on trade-in.

              Good luck with it all none the less..

              The other thing I was thinking of but its a bit of work and that is change over some bits on your car that others pay want in exchange for their stock items, like your wheels for example, the boavistas are well sort after in the aftermarket, you could trade with someone who had stock 15's for some cash and while its even more work, you could trade with someone who wanted the sports suspension over their stock. These items the dealer would not (I dare say) give you any more for your car if they had them or not. I could be wrong, but in the past they have not....

                  Thanks pontiff, appreciate it and I probably do need all the luck I can get.

                  I don't think I'll be able to go down that route of swapping part - I really don't know enough about cars to swap things in and out and not sure how doing that will affect what little warranty is left on the car so might also affect whatever price I can get for it.

                  I wish I knew more about cars and how to keep them running and what not, then I'd probably just keep the car coz I really do love it when it's running.
