Price for second hand 6R

Hi All,

I was just wondering if I'd be able to get some advice (and I apologise in advance if this is against any forum rules).

I'm looking to part ways with my 2010 6R 77TSI (MY11) and was wondering what are some realistic prices that I would be able to get for it. I've checked out carsguide and carpoint (& carsales) and even gumtree to see what other polo's are going for, but can't find any that is close to my car's specs & condition.

The car is auto/DSG in Flash Red, with factory fitted comfort, sports and audio packages, alcantara/leatheratte upholstery (with heated front seats) , as well as dealer fitted alarm, tint, weather shields and mud flaps. I even paid for that X-pack leather and paint protection thingy.

All this though is offset by the amount of km's the car has, which is currently sitting just under 83k kms - though I get teased a lot for driving like a grandma (no offence to any grandma's reading this) and have always gotten it serviced on time at the dealer (so log book is up-to-date).

Just wondering what your thoughts are on how the price would compare to those on carsguide/carpoint/carsales/etc - most of what I can find on those are base models (no options) or have 1 or 2 optional packages at most and rarely find any with close to that amount of km's (though last week I did find one with 82.5k kms for 17,990 from a dealer but it was a base model).

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated

The extra's sound nice but to average joe who is just after a car they don't really see them as worth the extra price.

Best bet is to put it up at a price you are happy to let it go for and wait until someone who is looking for one in your spec will buy it or talk $.

If you want a number, assuming it still has a years warranty, I'd say 18 would be good without looking into it in any detail.

Thanks noone (cool username btw ). The warranty expires end of November this year, so roughly 4 months left. Not much warranty time left at all.

Am going to see a mate who works at a dealership this weekend about another car and will probably get the Polo checked out for a trade in price but am expecting to be given a very very low ball figure (it would be done by my mate's colleague rather than my mate).

18 was the starting price I was thinking of going if I was to sell privately (and let it go for a bit less after the inevitable haggling), but just worried that the bad press with the DSG recalls might deter any interests in soon-to-be out of warranty VWs. Also not sure how the recall will affect the sale - not knowing when the recall letter will be sent (pretty sure it's one of the models to be recalled).

As the secondhand car market is well saturated with the cars just out of warranty. I don't think that there are many brands, if any, that would have the resale value of the cars 10-5 years ago.

Thanks Transporter. I was thinking the same thing. Especially with the lower prices on brand new cars, I'm worried there would be very little to no interest in a car with that much kms and coming off warranty. I'm just tossing up on what low number I might (or should) start considering accepting for a trade in offer.

For me there is only one way to fight that trend and that is to keep the car for a bit longer, and of course when buying a new one to buy it with the features that I need, so I don't feel the need to upgrade every 3-4 years. But, I also don't want to keep the car for longer than 10years or 180,000km.

If you want to sell now, price it to sell, the closer you get to having no warranty left the less keen a buyer will be.

The DSG warranty is 5 years (for you to pass onto potential buyers).

I actually don't like the whole notion of selling and would prefer to keep rather than upgrade every 3 to 4 years. This Polo has actually been the nicest car I've owned and has actually spoilt me in how good it is to drive and the quality of the interior.

The only reason I've decided to part ways with it is that I really need a car that I can rely on and trust. I know I haven't had as much problems with the car as others on here have had with theirs, and for all I know the car is now in tip top shape after the last warranty work that was done on it, but I just hate driving around with that gnawing feeling that the car might suddenly go into limp mode again with some other problem. Makes me paranoid about every odd sound or odd bump/vibration I feel while driving. I know it's purely a mental thing but it's just not something I want to feel while driving, especially with the amount of time I spend on the road.

That's why I was trying to think of what possible prices I'd be able to get for the car. I was thinking if the market was good, I might be able to get up to $18k, if I get desperate and the market is bad, I was thinking I might be able to get around $15k. So if I was offered around $13k on a trade in, I was thinking I might consider it - though I'm guessing they'll offer me closer to $10k if all the things I hear about low balling trade in offers are as bad as they say.

Do those numbers sound realistic?

As for selling now while there's warranty left, sadly I can't be without a car (for work and general purposes) so I can't actually sell the car till I get the next car (hopefully ASAP). It's the main reason why I haven't put the car up on any of the classifieds to test the market as I dont want to waste any potential buyer's time

Thanks Zakarados. That's actually an option I haven't thought of before. Is the extended warranty with VW or with a specific dealer?
