Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have fitted H&R 35/55 springs initially with OME shocks. Agree whole hearteldly that this is an awful mach. Car was dangerous to drive. No rebound control made every bump feel like the car was pogo stick jumping.

Fitted KONI sports struts and rear shockers (both adjustable for rebound). Made an incredable positive difference. Still bumpy, but controlable.

I have not experienced any tyre rubbing with 18x7.5 et 35 amd 215/35.

I would imagine the 25/40 springs are not as firm as the 35/55. I had a series 4 Golf lowered to that speck and always wished it was lower. Hence, this time around I have gone the "full monty". Eaven though it is a bit harder to live with.

Good to hear its all working together. But to go "full monty" would be to get coils... Or for the extreme, bags.

Does the GTI sit lower than the 77tsi from factory? I have the 77tsi with sports pack.. would the H&R 25/40 lower it comfortably and would i be able to keep the standard shocks?

the tsi with sports pack should sit at the same height as the gti (15mm lower than stock). couldn't tell you about the spring/shock combo, but fairly sure there are others on here that have done it.

Stock GTI must be quite high too then. Is there an appropriate thread "suspension for dummies"? Would love to hear from TSI owners who have lowered their polo. I am assuming changing springs/shocks would alter warranty?

So can anyone confirm is the 25/40 with OEM shocks get much scrubbing (or none at all?) or is it more isolated to the 35/55's?

SHOULD be none/very rare scrub (large bumps mid corner when pushing it, large bumps at high speed[dodgy country roads]) due to stiffer springs. though the key word there is should....
