How is a wheel a consumable item? They should last forever if they dont cop an impact. Only exception I can think of would be if they were used for racing with slicks on them. Even then you would expect the spokes to crack, not the inner rim.

Wheel looks immaculate other than the crack so they could hardly claim it is misuse. If it was pothole damage there would be a dent and a crack. I think you're entitled to a rim. Whether they give you one or not is another story.

I would say the old steel wheels we had used to be able to last forever but with the increasing upsizing of wheels and smaller sidewall to take an impact it is more and more likely that we will see cracks on wheels due to our poor quality roads.

By all meas try and get a new one out of them under warranty but i seriously doubt it will happen.

Well........................ went to Morton & May to do as has been suggested above.
To get an opinion before going to VW

and............................................... ..well.......................if you look at the 2nd pic, at about 180 degrees to the crack you can see a buckle.
Well I can now. Mr Morton (or Mr May??) saw it straight away

Seems I (or wife or #1) has hit a pot hole and done the damage

Now I wont say I have never hit a pot hole, but I am surprised at the damage.
Certainly hit pot holes in my 1303 beetle, but that runs 55 series (and Porsche wheels)

On the up side - $125 and it will be good as new.

On the other side - no way would I upgrade to 18" over the 17" now.

        Whatever.... live and learn

        The End

Did you contact Wheel Centre Repairs? Think I've seen you cruising around in the Beetle.

            Nah- I just contacted M& M
They were a lot closer to me at work and have heard good things from them.

            Probably have seen me.
