  • Polo 6r 77 tsi Brake Pads

My 77 tsi is in for a service today, and i have been advised that the break pads are running low and will need to be replaced.

I was just curious what the best after-market break pads are that are low dust, with better or equal abilities of the OEM pads.

Depends on your budget? When mine are due I'll be doing a full Porsche Cayman S brake setup however I found this quite fast on Ebay: Front Brembo Brake Pads VW Polo 6R 1 2 06 09 ON | eBay

My advice Carbon pads are the best to achieve low brake dust and caking on your wheels...but depends what you're willing to fork out!

I know its off topic but I am just wondering - how many KM do you have on your Polo? The brakes on most VW's are designed so that when the brake pads are finished so are the brake discs so they are replaced together and the new ones beded in together.

I have done 45,000km and I am a hard braker and have only used just shy of half way on both front and backs. You should get at least 60,000+ out of them.

To me it just sounds like the stealership trying to screw you!

Those pads are well within budget, when I was told on the phone he said $200+ to replace and install front and i cut him off there and said not to worry

          Edit:

Happy to spend around $200 mark on front and rear pads, how much will a new set up completely set me back and what kind of difference is there going to be?

Polo 6r 77 tsi Brake Pads

Front brakes (discs and pads) on mine were replaced at 30,000 km due to shuddering under braking.

Rear brakes are still the same ones that were fitted at the factory and they're only about 3/4 worn after 65,000 kms.

They're pretty good for that price and free brake fluid! and OMP is in my opinion a great brand...remember a lot of things in Europe are around 1/3 to two thirds cheaper than things bought in Australia...our country is nothing short of over inflated in terms of pricing, housing etc.

I think thats actually my bad. I assume two pads are required for each wheel ? In that case the front & rears come to about $250 for all four wheels + P&H.

Refer to one of our forum sponsors and ask for Remsa pads - GSL RallySport

Alternatively, you could also go for some ATE Ceramics - ATE Brakes

I think you meant to say ceramic pads, which tend to have lighter-coloured dust compared to metallic or semi-metallic pads.

Carbon composite brake technology (carbon-carbon, carbon-ceramic, carbon-titanium, etc) is usually reserved for exotic machinery like supercars or racing cars.

They look like racing pads to me, which in general tend to be more aggressive in regards to wear, noise and dust.

A few hard applications of the brake pedal at high-speeds may solve the issue.

Polo 6r 77 tsi Brake Pads

Remsas are great and well priced. You will be able to get a complete set (f+r) for around $200. Much less dust, less touchy, and no noises/squeaks etc. very happy with mine and i recommend them to everyone.

GSL Rallysport (sponsor on here) is the place to get them.

Should of stated Ceramic, but was thinking of our track car diesel *lapse of thought* Carbon/Carbon for us is more viable (track) however extremely expensive to replace when cracked.

Also here is the link to Remsa:

                          Remsa

I think OMP are quite good...but as diesel said...they will be more aggressive, and wear faster...if you like race squealing when braking you won't get that with an aggressive pad...instead it will be like a scourer on ceramic dish while cleaning...not so appealing

Off-Topic Brakes always intrigue me...check out this video

Yeah, me too. Braking is one of those things that people like to look at last as an upgrade, for me, it was first

One of th eguys in our office while still in canada used to moonlight as a photographer for different racing publications. One time he was photographing at a 24 hour race when a C5 Corvette came into view and a brake disc exploded just as he got his shots off, the images are amazing, it's th eentire sequence of seeing the discs start to glow more and more then bang!

Ok, back semi on topic now. I can vouch for the Remsa pads, they are great as a street pad and in a 77tsi you won't be reaching the kinds of speeds that they start to fade at unless you're on a track. In Darwin. Anyone who has suffered brake fade will tell you that there is only one thing more scary, brake failure! So a good set of pads and some fresh fluid are a great modification to any car.
