Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I've got a MY13 GTI (build date mid-Dec 2012). I'm running VCDS 11.11.5 with a non-genuine cable. I've already stumped up $$$ for a genuine Micro-CAN cable for my Skoda Octavia Scout, only to find the Polo won't play with a Micro-CAN cable, and I'm not keen on handing over another couple of hundred Dollars for the Hex-CAN cable. Anyway, when I go into Adaption/Staging, after a couple of seconds, I get an error along the lines of "option not found". Is this likely to to be a cable issue? Or perhaps not all MY13 GTIs support staging? Quite a bit of other stuff is available for me to change with this cable, so I'm seriously doubting it's a cable issue.

I wish I knew someone in NZ with a genuine Hex-CAN cable I could borrow to confirm...

Plus it's linked to the immobiliser so would need to swap it at the dealer or workshop that can do the coding. So would not be cheap.
still needs to be coded via VCDS. And from what I've read on the other forum. people with xenon equipped cars have been the only ones successfully getting staging after install of the "H" gauges.

When I did this on a MY13 GTI, Staging didn't accept coding, but following the link above does work. Keep us posted

that option is not available in v11.8 so I'll have to wait 2 weeks for a friend with a genuine cable to try it or live without

So MY11 models still won't work sadly...

That works, even with my non-genuine cable . Thanks very much for the YouTube link. I love the field description "indicator celebration"!

I've got a HEX-CAN cable and VCDS 11.11. I'd class myself as somewhere between beginner and intermediate in terms of using this stuff; for example, I've successfully enabled needle sweep following this video. I've followed the steps outlined by Gavs at Post #5 in this thread, but just can't see the settings as described in the post.

Please would someone be able to provide me with (or point me towards) instructions for how to configure:
                      1. Convenience lane indications - change from 3 blinks to 4
                      2. Coming home/leaving home - if possible (I have Xenons)
                      3. Brake Assist setting from standard to hard
                      4. XDS - adjusting setting to strong

                      Thanks in advance,

                      Simon

In response to my own post above, I dug around further and have taken some screen shots of what I see when I go into the 03 ABS Brakes area (which is where I think I need to be to configure Brake Assist and XDS. I've then gone into what seem like the most relevant adaptations to show the options available. I'd be really grateful if someone who knows what they are doing (unlike me ) could look at the snaps and point me in the right direction?

List of all options visible under 03 ABS Brakes - Adaptation:

List of options under 03 ABS Brakes - Adaptation - expanded electronic differential lock:

Finally, if I click on the Long Coding Helper button, I get this error:

Any assistance on this and the post immediately above would be much appreciated.

Scobb because you don't have a genuine cable, that could be why you get that error.

Have a look in the specific VCDS section of the forum (linked to in the stickies) and it will tell you what you are looking for

Yes, I've looked and can't see anything really specific in the way of detail for the 4 options I'm looking to tweak. But you're probably right - it may be the "dodgy" cable that's holding me back, so I've PM'd a fellow NZ-based user on the Briskoda forum who has a genuine HEX-CAN cable, to see if I can borrow it.

I'd be interested if anyone with a genuine cable gets the error I'm seeing when clicking on Long Coding Helper button? I thought I'd read somewhere that there was limited long coding support for the 6r in VCDS.

I emailed Ross-Tech for advice before upgrading my MICRO-CAN to a HEX-CAN cable. Here's their reply:

The 6R Polo isn't based on Mk.4 Golf. It's an eclectic collection of stuff from VW's parts bins, and some of them are totally unique to the car (and some of its cousins like the Seat Ibiza).

Whether Long Coding Helper is available isn't determined on a car-by-car basis, but rather on a module-by-module basis. Some modules in that car simply don't use Long coding, they use the traditional short coding instead, so Long Coding Helper simply doesn't apply. That doesn't mean coding help isn't available, but it may take the form of a balloon on the coding screen like this:

Unfortunately, it's really not possible to tell you exactly what modules do and don't have coding help available without seeing a scan of the car. Being a 2013 model, it's possible that some modules are new and don't have any help available yet. That doesn't mean it will never have them, but you have to understand that VW doesn't give us any help with this stuff at all...
