Like I said previously, was quoted 395 or whatever it was. I went to pick up my car and to my surprise it was 520 (!!!) including rotation.

Was a bit shocked but I paid anyway and just as I was walking out the door got a call from the manager and was told that since I was quoted 395 they honour it so they'd give me 120 credit to my next service.
Credit on the next overpriced service is not quite the same as $120 back in your pocket

And which OEM VW tyres are directional Hillbilly?

Surely you mean "Check & see if your tyres are directional (there will be an arrow on the sidewall with the word "rotation"). If they are directional you can only go front to back.

You didn't question it or point out their error? You almost desreve to pay more because you didn't stand up for yourself.

I'd have had the bill adjusted before handing over any money.

On page 322 of my Passat manual is a picture Fig 217 which shows changing wheels front to back on each side. In next column is a paragraph telling you to do it as in Fig 217 In the Polo manual on page 236 and Fig 139 it says the same thing.

As well as that I have understood since radial tyres were introduced that it was unwise to swap them to run "backwards" to how they were originally fitted. The reason being they get a "memory" and in the old days would run rough if you swapped them. I understand that tyre technology has improved but have always followed the above.

My Contis only have "Outside" marked on the sidewalls but as you say "some" are directional and marked as such. Perhaps they could be defined as "semi directional" LOL

A lot performance tyres are directional or the ones I have looked at are.

I'm very sorry I didnt check before writing.

However I would never get the stealers to swap them as have had mags scratched by them and a tyre shop who dropped a stripper on a perfectly good rim and gouged it. Denied they did it but I heard it land and the muppet swear.

You are right, they do get a memory. That's why you put the drive tyres onto the lazy axle without changing the direction of rotation, this enables the memory (imagine looking from the side that it looks like a parallelogram) to relax itself (into a square). Because the tyres that were on the lazy axle have "relaxed" themselves, they can be crossed over onto the drive tyre. By reversing the direction, this eventually removes the leading/trailing edge high spots off the tread blocks and reduces noise.

Most of the OEM VW stuff is assymetric.

I don't trust tyre places either - worked in them for too long. You can get a cheap & cheerful trolley jack that complies with AU stds from SCA with a couple of jack stands for <$100 during sale time that has a thousand uses & much safer than the crap VW jack.

Oh yeah I pointed it out. The receptionist said that I shouldn't have been quoted the capped price and there wasn't much she could do (obviously bs). I didn't pay until I was explained why it was 520.

Totally agree. I might be moving interstate soon so I might call them up and see if I can get that back in a cheque since I probably won't be here next year for my overpriced service
