Its a nice car, but its so cramped inside & barely feels bigger than a 5dr Polo. Also the price and pretentiousness of the Audi dealers is a total pain.

Personally, my favourite hot VAG MQB car is the Skoda Octavia RS. It has the craziest seats, an excellent colour palette and judging by the base model, features you can't get in the Golf 7 or afford in the Audi.

Octavia should be about 42-45K driveaway.

        • My only issue is the dealers. I can see them thinking I'm a joke since I don't look like the "typical" Audi buyer haha.
Might pop down this arvo or tomorrow and see if there's anything in stock I can look at.
Price is a little stretch but I figure with the Open Haus thing they have going ATM I could get one for around $65k on road with the SPack seats and B&O sound system.

The Octavia RS is a nice bit of kit but the looks just don't do it for me.

Good luck to you sir, I wanted to test drive the A3 Quattro and the guy wouldn't give me the time of day because I didn't want to buy a car on the day (even I told him I had a substantial amount saved in cash from the wirtten off Polo) . I haven't even driven it yet and you expect me to plop down full retail for it?? And I wasn't in a T-shirt, flip flops and shorts like I was at the Skoda dealer which the guy handed me the keys to their only on the road demo car and said cya in half an hour and make sure you grab a free coke on the way out.

I know dealers are different everywhere, but it was night and day to me.

Make sure you try and get the corporate package though, its vital on an Audi (especially an S) as they don't have capped price servicing.

              • Plenty happy with my Polo (not a GTi) but think if I ever sold for something else, id go with Skoda Octavia, or new Mazda 3 in Automatic.

                • So the damage on a new S3?
Just under $70k drive away with S-Performance package and Audi Open Haus free rego/stamp duty. Im sure there's a little more wiggle room with additional extra's added.
More than i've ever spent on a car but i don't know, this thing has a spell on me right now

Looks like i have a lot of thinking to do over the next week or so

Perhaps wait for the Golf 7 R to come out? if you don't like it, it'll at least make things more competitive. Or go down to the A3 1.8t Quattro? Almost same 0-100 as the Golf 7 GTI but with quattro.

                    • I'm taking the plunge on a Pug 208 GTI. 30K on road. I know its not as extreme as the Fiesta ST but I rather like the plush ride it has around town (like my 306 GTi-6 i used to have). And the interior is the best in the class (the Clio is very close).

I had a test drive of a MY14 Polo GTI. Still like the car... ride seemed smoother than the original 6R GTI i drove years ago. The only let down after the Clio/208 is the stereo/lack navigation. I didn't think I was so shallow to worry about that but it sure does date the Polo Interior (the rest is still fine).

                      • I have to say, while I initially despised the look of the 208 in pictures , it looks much better in the metal.

It grows on you - lol. One thing that the 208 has over the competition is a great palette (for a hot hatch) of colours.

                          • New interim car before the Facelifted Focus ST arrives in October, Ford Australia made the deal too alluring!

P.S I still have the Polo

                            • I picked up my white Pug 208 GTI yesterday. Off on a 4 day run in trip this arvo (Snowy Mtns and Victoria highlands)

only a 3 yr lease so can return to VW fold if Peugeot ownership doesn't agree with me Definitely towards the GT end of the spectrum compared to the Fiesta ST... but my old bones dont mind that.

                              • Gotta say im a fan of the wheels on these and the exhaust tip is interesting, nice pickup mate.

I think i'll be holding off a new purchase now until there's confirmation that the new Polo R/Audi S1 is a goer for Aus. If not it'll be back to either the Mk7 Golf R or 8v S3.
