Ok, I'll bite. People are entitled to their opinions on this forum without inane sarcasm like yours. If your happy with your old school method then that's fine, doesn't mean that others subscribe to it.....end

Thats correct, they are entitled to their opinions, and posting in ones thread with an opinion will incurre a response. Insane sarcasm or not, how ever you would like to take it im mearly pointing out with insufficient history/proof of your snide remark will result in another.

On a lighter note, 2500km no oil used yet.

Edit: tonight I was doing some straight spirited driving and noticed that shifts around 5k it was dsg farting, not sure if it has always been doing it and I have not noticed due to music. But it was quiet norticable tonight.

Just one other thing which I forgot to mention is the computer says the car has an average consumption of 6.8l/100km but the car has never done better than a properly measured 8.2L/100km. Should I mention that to the dealer

            the user manual...

Anyway, sounds like you are really enjoying your new ride, happy motoring!
Did anyone else read the user manual. Mine says that the best way to warm up is to drive it for a little while at lower RPM's (dont remember exact wording), no need according to VW to sit there and wait.

Went for a drive from Brisbane up the mountain to Maleny and back (about 350k) on Sunday in sport the whole time and got 7.8, very happy!

But the computer is not accurate.
Check how many kms you can do on a full tank. Measure kms and litres and calculate manually

So what is accurate then? How accurate is your odometer and how accurate is the bowser? Manufacturer specs tell you the tank is 45 litres but unless you suck the thing dry and fill up from dead empty then drive it till it runs out again, how do you know exactly how many litres you've used? None of this is scientifically precise without specialist equipment but my MFD average seems to be within acceptable tolerances.

Might be worth mentioning it to your dealer if you thing it's way out of whack, but if you do your own measurements why would you bother? Unless you think there might be a fuel leak or some other issue adversely impacting fuel consumption that could develop into something worse.

Then again, maybe leave the calculator at home and just enjoy the driving experience!

That was my recollection also. In fact, I'm sure the manual also says somewhere to avoid unnecessary periods of extended idling.

That is really good fuel economy, especially being in sport. I have yet to test a whole day of driving in sport mode. Tried it once but didnt like how it wont shift till high rpm all the time.

This is correct it is bad to idle a car for long periods of time when engine temperatures are hot and 0 air flow.

The only reason I warm up the car is if the engine is dead cold (havent been driven overnight) to make sure the oil is at a decent temperature. Doesnt have to be at 90 degrees but I like to see it at 60 before I start cruise out of the complex. By the time iv putted out of the area (takes a while) im at 70-75 ish.

One question I must ask because it is drivig me crazy is why does the gti not have a cold start program? When the cars started from dead cold it seems to idle higher for about 5 seconds to gain oil preasure then drops straight to idle. In comparison to our mitsubishi evo which has a full cold start program can go from a dead cold start to operating temperature by the time I have a smoke.

Maybe another way to achieve lowest possible fuel economy figures? Like less ring drag on CAV engines (at the expense of oil consumption and all of the other horrible side-effects of suspected oil blow-by)?

Hope not. I'd rather spend a bit more on fuel than suffer engine performance and durability problems.

Might mention it to the dealer because there is a 20% error between the computer and reality in my car.

Or the Engine Number on the order/delivery form will be CTH------

If the car is in stock then the dealer can get this information easily. If it is being built or shipped over then it will be a CTH. Our Polo was built in Dec 12 and is a CTH engine

Finally broke 600km on a tank of fuel.
Fuel economy seems to be still improving. 2500km on the ODO
