  • Rear taillight review

Okay, seeing as quite a few are interested in rear taillights and what options, here goes...

I've purchased the standard black tails:

So far we've established there are two ways about modding these... swapping for OEM light bulb holder, or modding wires. Nonetheless, fog cover needs to be taken out as on wrong side. OEM quality so fitment is perfect.

Now I've purchased these. Smoked ones, red also available.

They are produced by Eagle Eyes Taiwan. Looks awesome as it matches the OEM Bi-Xenons. Only the parkers are LED, everything else is just stock bulbs. No error as resistor is built inside unit. One thing I noticed is that the instructions indicate there is supposed to be a light panel included, but wasn't as they want us to use our factory one (maybe due to the fact these lights were made for LHD). Also need to pull out fog light lens cover. Fitment maybe about 90-95%, you can tell they aren't factory but unnoticeable close up. I'll have better pics up later.

Also purchased some Dectane "light-bar" LED rear tails. As soon as I receive them I'll post em up. LHD so will need modding too. Smoked purchased, but also available in red.

I've pretty much got all the tails that are available currently, so save yourself the trouble and just fire off any questions in this thread and I'll try to help out! People might say waste of time and money, fair enough!

    Cheers,
    Eddie

Eddie, is the fitment of the Mars performance lights that are not 100%? Do they not sit properly?

They say they are plug and play but if the fog light cover needs to be removed, I guess they aren't.

Yeah the Mars performance is probably nearly perfect but just around the edges you can tell if you have a keen eye. Better to see in person. In all honesty, I'm probably being really picky, it's hard to tell LOL!

Yeah, I thought it'd be 100% plug and play, but it literally took all of 5 mins to get some pliers and yank it out.

Nah, averge photo looks like it is wrapped! Second week of Feb I'm planning on booking it in. You in? We'll have to ask Rob too! Mini meet again!!

Ahh ok.. I want to see them in person so yes let's organize another meet.
With any luck I might have my rims by then.

Are they more smoked than the OEM blacks? They look like they are.

Hell yes I'm in! I want to do my roof, front grille and rear diffuser. Unsure whether to go Matt or gloss though :S
Lets book it in together. Second week of feb is great!

Done deal! Awesome, and shotgun a ride in your coilovered car too!

Yeah, i'd say a shade darker. Still visibility of light transmission is unharmed.

Gloss but maybe matte to match your wheels??! Also, highly recommend taking off antenna for wrap, I'll be getting roof redone also Pumped as!

              Sure, easily done
I may also tweak the dampers soon too I think they're set to comfort from factory but I think I'm gonna go to sports setting and see if that reduces roll into corners.
Can't wait to ditch these tyres too. Dunlop sport maxx = poo

Yer I was thinking of going Matt, but I think gloss would look better.

Dw antenna will come over prior to wrap

would love to see some better pics of the Mars taillights! Also if it isnt too much trouble, a shot with both 1 OEM black light and 1 Mars unit installed for easy side by side comparisment

                Good find!

more photos of the DNA Dectane lights (to aid your thread):

Also Fastlane, if you ever want to sell the OEM dark tails (if you decide to keep either the MARS/Dectanes) I would be interested (then again who isn't)

Can you do a shot of the Mars ones with lights off in the daylight

Interested to see the dectanes in real life as the website pictures look a little photoshopped.

Nope the mars lights are RHD so it won't require any re-wiring.
As per Eddie's post though, the inside lens cover would still need to be removed

Although unfortunately due to a shipping mishap it looks like I wont be picking up these lights. good for PoloGTI causehe doesnt lose money on the shipping the extra set, bad for me cause I can't put my lights in.

Oh well...off to ebay I go!

That's what I thought, just abit confused y u would still need to take out the lens if they are RHD
