I knew that when I bought it so Im not "Stuck" with it. For $100 less than the English one I can put up with the voice saying +++??.???*** when it starts up as I have got the English viewer so can do all the settings in English which is all you need.
For 400s bought before Feb 2012 you could install any version firmware and then they wised up and restricted it.
My other cameras are older ones. Have installed 6 altogether so sort of know whats what.

Gotta say got the 400 and 500 and both working perfecto. The 400 runs hotter and so I bought micro slotted heatsinks but have yet to fit them touch wood - it's all good todate. Anyone in two minds about a cam, I'd recommend it - piece of mind and ability to provide evidence should the worst happen.

I'm using hacked firmware on my DR400 II and upped the bitrate from approx. 7Mb/s to 15Mb/s. Works a treat!

BTW, here are pics of my install:

Hi folks, dash cams have significant number of users and are pretty much nightly news, showing the latest Road Rage or stupitity what dash cams are worthwhile buying? The Russians seem to all have them. Would anyone who actually sells and installs them like to recommend both types that record front and rear views?

I have a Blackvue DR500GW HD in the front of the Passat and a DR350 in the rear.
A Blackvue is available with both front and back as a set DR550GW HD

Not hard to install if done carefully and tidily

Checkout TechMoan on youtube. He does a good video - like a DashCam 101 tutorial and also does individual reviews. It's important to see what the night footage is like, so if you can look at a few reviews....

I've just ordered a GT680W from FoxOffer.com. It was around $120 inc a decent 32Gb memory card. I figured it would be a good starting point but if I had the spare $$ I'd look at something like a Vicovation Marcus 5 for the rearview as well.

The reason the Russians use dashcams is because Comprehensive insurance is about 5x-10x more expensive than 3rd party prperty insurance so they use the dashcams to prove innosence / guilt. Also heaps of people drive while totally blotto & corruption is preodominant, so it isn't hard to buy your way out of trouble.

I was bought one of these a few Xmas's ago, and it works great, I recently hooked up the rear camera, which I never got around to install. It doesn't promise as much quality as the front camera, but should be still fine as footage in a accident. The wires are hanging down just to the left of me, but don't want to tuck them through the roof or anything like that, there not really in my line of sight when driving so I'm happy with the set up I have.

I have an iTronics ITB1000 paired with Power magic pro made by Blackvue.

Fantastic device with great picture quality! Only issue I have is that if I leave the car alone for a day or two. The starter motor cranks considerably slower, may be just a case of having to change the settings on the Power Magic..
