This will keep the spring and strut compressed so it's just a little bit easier to wiggle out.
I'm not entirely sure what you mean but if I have to take it out again i will indeed ask you.

Well today I bought another top strut mount from VW ($45 mind you) and installed it tonight.. well I am at a real loss to know what is going on to the point that if I can't figure it out soon, I'm just going to take them out and sell them as its doing my absolute head in.. the drivers side... perfect, not a problem in the world (touch wood) it does not misbehave at all, but the passenger side.....

Well installed the mount and I think its collapsed already... its been on the car for all of about 10 minutes now and its already failing (or at least that's what we used to see on the 6n1's and have to replace them), so I have wasted the best part of $50 on something that lasted 10 minutes... great stuff that! what would cause that? too much upward load being placed on them by the strut since it has smaller / more compressed springs?

So I don't know where to go from here. I have emailed KW and they have come back saying that it could possibly be because the top mount is not secured properly, which it is. I even grinded down 2 sides of a socket so that i could tighten it properly without resorting to an impact gun which i know is a big no-no.

i could put the bilsten top mount back on and see if that helps but I am not entirely sure it will make any difference.

Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated..... please

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)
