They're probably red because you had the Radio unplugged while the car was on, so the modules couldn't talk to it for a while.

As with the camera did you tick Byte 3, Bit 6 in the Radio/Nav seciton?

Yea ticket bit 6. I reset the faults and ran another log but still red. The one that worries me is the can gateway saying it incorrectly coded. How did that happen.

Also the back up lamp open circuit. Has anyone else with a RVC seem this fault.

And it seems to be lookin for the reverse camera module. But ther isn't one for this.

Well the fault codes all seem to indicate a bad connection with the Radio, perhaps the quadlock isn't in too well it's easy to half lock it at times.

As for the RVC someone in the Audio and elec section had a very similar problem. It might have some tips in there.

Why wont my camera work

Stoopid question here but are you 100% sure you have wired it correctly i.e my situation trying and trying to work out why my reverse screen stayed black, only to find my camera's video out wasn't actually plugged in.....

Back up light error makes me think the wiring is incorrect. Also to have all of those other errors makes me think there is a problem with the CAN Gateway - I had similar faults when mine was disconnected. But then I didn't think the Polo had a Gateway module as such...

I think the CAN errors seem to be related to the Reversing Camera some how being added to the installation list. Just untick it and the CAN errors will go.

I have got rid off all the errors. And even though the camera is still blank the have not returned.
I had a read of the other thread on black screen and I'm going to crack out my RCD 510 and see if it work with that.

The other thing that gave them grief was having bit 6 ticked in nav and radio coding And having to untick it in radio. Mine will auto tick both if I do it in nav. I untick it in radio but when I go back in its ticked? Even after a reset.z

So it works with my RCD510. Which means wiring and camera are good. Now I'll have to reed trough about ten other threads to see how the fixed it with the RNS.

Nav and Radio are the same unit with the same coding, they need to be ticked on both (but you only do it once on either Radio or Nav)

So after working out the camera was fine and worked perfect with the RCD I started to look at the RNS more. After speaking with Martin from JKU I decided to crack the RNS and check the pins on the 26 on plug connector to make sure they where correctly soldered in.

They where but I found something a little more disturbing inside.

There was a large crack across the top of the chip. Wether this has anything to do with the camera not working I don't know but it doesn't look good.

The other thing I found was when the RCD was in the voltage when I probed the red and yellow wire as close to the camera as possible was around 12v where as at the same point with the RNS in it was only 2v (I should point out at this stage I was getting the power and signal voltage straight from the battery to make sure it was not interfered with along the way)

So it seems there's something in the RNS sending a signal back through the 26 pin connection to the camera and cutting voltage

That's not the chip, it's just the insulating rubber pad to prevent it shorting on the case

Martin gave me a call earlier today (I do some install work for him). I've compared the coding of your RNS to mine and it seems fine. Are you sure you've unticked the 6C - Reversing camera from the CAN Gateway install list though, as my camera stops working with that on.

Yea not ticked. I got the RNS from carsystems before I knew about Martin. When I first installed it the black screen would come up in reverse. So I unticked bit 6 to stop it. I now get the feeling it was pulled out cause it wouldn't display the camera.

Bummer, all I can say then is to check that it's plugged in properly when you get around to installing the RNS

So I now have a new RNS510 and still just a black screen. Works perfectly with the RCD510 but not a RNS. Running out of options. Can't believe others work but not mine. Wondering if its the programming in the can or other module being wrong and when the RNS goes in its too high a social to handle.
