Hmm interesting. Most Coding in VCDS involves the use of terminal 56. I wonder if this will effect any coding later down the track.
Just from memory i know the Xenons DRL use terminal 56 to operate and the ability to use the indicator stalk for specific parkers also runs independently from the "parking" light position, again running off the status of terminal 56...

I was told that LED DRL have to be dimmed on the parking/low beam setting because when they are used in conjunction with the low beam the light output exceeds ECE standards.
Me personally I have them on full all the time 'cos they look cool.

Although I could be entirely wrong.
EDIT: Sorry, just read over the earlier posts again and yes, some coding is necessary as the front and rear parkers and number plate lights will stay on after the heat-shrinking of the TFL terminal.2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

Can't turn off my rear tail lights?
Originally posted by kam View Postwhy did vw setup the headlights like this on the polo anyway ?
the 'off' position, when driving, turns the headlights on, which is silly, so i always turn it to the middle position to turn the headlights off when driving, and then when parked, put it back to the left position to turn them off.
Re kam's post above with the switch in the middle position (parkers) the main tail lights are on which is not what I want during the day.
Is my issue a vadcom coding one or has anyone else had this issue?

Why worry You cant see them when driving and anything to help being seen is an advantage.
As already said they are compulsory in some countries and should be here as well..

Rears on - might be good in a heavy fog or rain, otherwise?
Is it standard for the rears to be on all the time?Last edited by car_nut; 16-05-2013, 07:05 PM.2015 Polo GTI with DA pack : Milltek Turbo back exhaust | DD spacer | JB1 | VWR Turbo Intake elbow and intake hose | BMC panel filter | KW Street Comfort coilovers | Whiteline adjust. endlinks | Harding DSG Perf. tune | Wagner Intercooler| Dotz Mugello 17 x 8 32ET

Your contradicting yourself. "Have the fronts on to be seen" but then you say who cares about the rear on. It's the Same concept rears on to be seen.
Idiots especially in black cars right on dusk Pull out in front with no tails on and make it hard to see them. I have no problem with people who obey the road rules and drive normal not having tails on as I know they are there and leave space. It's the idiots swerving all over the place and cutting you off just to gain one 2m (we all know the ones) in low light that that cause issues.
If there design to come on just leave them that way. If your worried its going to prematurely wear out your globes then sell your car.
because compared to the cost of purchase and ongoing maintenance over its life some 50 cent globes are just a drop in the ocean.
I can understand wanting things on when there not but trying to turn of things that where design that way is pointless. Why not direct your attention to something worth while.
If you want to run LED,s in your tails/headlamps without the errors get some of these.
I have led brake globes with these and they work fine with no errors.Last edited by LunchboxVRS; 16-05-2013, 08:36 PM.

I'm a sensible adult & want to be able to turn my headlights off if necessary!
I've been spoilt by 7 years of auto-lights on the MkV, but there's always a case when you want to manually turn the lights off (working on the car with the key in ignition, manually turn off headlights & interior lights to save battery drain)
That said, totally agree with DRL's as an always-on feature, which is great in a car with proper LED DRL's - just a pity they're using the main halogen lights in the Polo & not the parker lights instead (or some retrofitted LED DRL's in the bumper).
I agree that having the tail lights on permanently isn't ideal, but don't see a major issue with it - but there's no point in having the license plate lamp on the whole time.
Anyone care to summarise the 6 pages of arguments & let me know the codes to turn the rear license plate lights on or off? and if it's possible to move the DRL function to the parkers (for headlight 'off' position).2006 MkV 2.0TDI -> 2005 MkV GTI -> 2008 MkV R32 -> 2013 Polo 77TSI + 2016 Mk7 Golf R Wagon

Haha by turning off the DRL in any form means that you are irresponsible! Haha just kidding - please take that as a joke
Now what you would have to do is rip out the TFL pin on the back of the headlight switch as this function is hard wired in. That will deactivate the DRL using the main halogens.
Then with VCDS go into cent electrics and go "adaption". There will be an option "parkers on with terminal 15" (terminal 15 been the 0 position on the light switch with the ignition on) this will light up the front and rear parkers!
Enjoy
