Sorry to re-hash an old thread but i'm at 3 years on my Dunlops and looking to replace them.

It looks like RE002's are around $315 per tyre now (owch), and i've also been told to look at the Pirelli P Zero nero GT's, and Bridgestone S001's.

From what I can tell, the Pirelli's are good except noisy on the road, and the S001's are generally very good, but wear out quickly and are also pricey.

Can anyone recommend a good balanced dry performing and low-road noise performance tyre they have a good experience with on the POG? We don't get much rain out here in Perth so wet performance is pointless.

I have the Pirelli on the fronts. They're a step up with more grip and less squeal compared to the Dunlops IMO. Is it noisier? Maybe a little but I can't tell now and the car has always been noisy (compared to our Golf on Michelins) to me.

Try Tempe Tyres. They have RE050A for $215 & others for cheaper. Delivery is about $80. Fit/balance will be about $100/set.

Or Tire rack have Yokohama AD08 for USD190. That will work out about AUD1200 delivered

- Michelin Pilot Sport 3

Has anyone gone up a size wider on the factory rims?
Would like a little more grip on the front end without having to have a set of track rims.

grip will be achieved with the stickiest tyre you can find rather than trying to put more rubber on the road. Going wider will give a baggier sidewall & slow turn-in a fraction.

For reference, I went for both - wider & stickier.

Hankook Z221 Medium semi slicks 225/45R17 had no appreciable effect on turn in during a the recent Targa West City Sprint, but almost eliminated wheelspin meaning I could get all the power down coming through the corners.

So now I need more power...

That's because the Z221 is a full semi-slick with super stiff sidewalls. There's all sorts of reasons why normal road tyres don't grip and turn in like these (and other full semi-slicks)

FYI KMart tyre and Auto Services will beat others prices on tyres. 215/40 17 RE050A for my front wheels were $205each last friday. I kept with the 050As as I still have good backs and didnt want to have different tyres front and back, but the price match thing was most interesting, I quoted Tempe's price and they beat it without quibble.

Just got a quote from Beaurepairs for Goodyear F1 asymmetric2 for $247 per corner.... Not sure... I have my eyes on Michelin Pilot Sports 3

Spoke with my local Bridgestone select store the other day, they said the Potenza range will be on special next month (most likely buy 3 get 1 free) I'd highly recommend the RE002's

I'm in need of new tyres and have been looking for a bit now. I couldn't find anywhere that sold RE002's cause they are discontinued, superseeded by the 003's. Cheapest I found the 003's for were $235 a tyre at jax. Similar to hail, bridgestones also confirmed with me that starting 1 November, they'll have the buy 3, 4th free promotion on all potenza's.

So after looking at the bridgestones, I decided against them and bought some eagle f1's. Hopefully they're better than the Dunlop's the car came with!!

Ahhh good pick Jay, I have the Eagle F1 ASY 2' on the S3 and Mazda awesome performance tyre! Only negative is the cost $$$
