Cheers ReadErr0r... I dont have xenons, hence why i want to disable the rubbish VW solution to DRLs for cars like mine. I'm hoping not to have to pull the pin, but if needs must then I guess that's my final resort.

Thanks once again to Staz for his help with my lights today, I know that there is some good German logic to these cars and their systems, but two (three for a while, until one saw sense and went home LOL!) clever blokes with a computer were stumped by these lights today.
You managed to set off Nordic mode, here's some info on it.

It best to take things slow with VCDS, its easy to go wild and end up in a mess. I find having a break helps

A few notes on the RVC.... most annoying install ever, more annoying than the Auto lights but here's a few tips.

There's a factory ground point in the hatch lid, just use that instead of having to run the ground through the to side.

There's no constant +12v in the hatch which is lame. I went direct from the battery (which is in the wheel well in the GTI). There's a line with a 30 Amp fuse on it, just use a loop crimp under the screw.

The sheath on the 24 pin connector is super easy to take off, just lift the two tabs up and pull the inner plug out. It's easier to run through holes and whatnot now.

Guys, can ew keep the chat in here limited to the install of the RVC? this is a DIY thread after all. I will look at cleaning this thread up too if need be for clarity.

Yeah, might be a couple of lunchtimes worth of work but that's a good idea.

A little update after using this camera for a bit. Bottom line is that I really like it. The Polo is not a hard car to reverse, but the letterbox rear window can be hassle for some and for those coming from larger cars its amusing to note how far you can park a polo from the kerb and other cars without some practice LOL

Anyway, your own reversing skillz aside, the camera does help, not just in placing the car which most of us have no problem with, but also with what is behind of course. Its great to have an extra view and a simple check now and then is very useful when reversing and stops you running over things, or hitting low poles etc. If you can save having a bumper repainted then youve saved the cost of this mod already, save the need a tailgate or a light and youre in credit, etc etc.

So, would I do it again. yes I would. This mod was not something I expected to as good as it is, and... I use it more than I thought I would, even the Mrs said it was good, high praise indeed LOL!

So huge props to lunchy for the bracket and Staz and others for the help with the install and VCDS.

I agree, it doesn't seem instantly useable, especially at home, but it really helps in busy fast food/shopping centre car parks where people frequently drive by even when you're initiating a reverse.

So exactly how do you do this in VCDS?
                  56-Radio, then long coding.
Mine doesn't have a RVC option it says four things in the long coding bit, only Bit 0 is ticked.

Bit O AUX-IN Access restricted (TICKED)
Bit 1 CD-Changer/iPod/UsB Connection Monitor (UNTICKED)
Bit 2 AUX-IN Connection Monitoring activc (UNTICKED)
Bit 3 Parking Aid Installed (UNTICKED)

Do i turn bit 0 off then put bit 3 on?

                    Control Module 56-Radio

                    Goto long code helper

Click on Byte 3 (it's the fourth byte from the left)

                    Tick Bit 6 - Back-Up camera low

Alrighty - all done. Definitely a full on install. Works well though - very happy with it.

For GTI's pull apart the supplied cable so you have the coax separate to the 3 wires (red/yellow/black). The three wires only need to run into the boot, not the whole car.
Lift the purple clip on the coax cables blue connector - you will be able to slip it off and be left with a small metal square which is super easy to feed through the car/hatch/rubber thingy.
For the run up the hatch i ran a flexible bamboo skewer thingy, then used the excess in the coax to pull the three wires back down the hatch.
I attached the yellow cable to the bottom cable on the passenger taillight. To do this i opened the connector and soldered the cable to the metal connecting pin. Reclosed the connector and its very neat.
The black wire i put a loop on and attached to the ground point just next to the passenger taillight.
For the red wire i ran it down to the battery and put a loop on and connected it to the 30a point (non-GTI's will need to source constant 12v somewhere else sorry).

I got no power to the camera when i first did it (cables around the wrong way as spelled out by staz in post 20) - this is something of a gotcha if you install the badge unit first.

Thanks for everyone's awesome help with this guide, the bracket & the vcds help!
