  • Bluefin Superchip Tunes for Polo GTi

I've been looking into getting a tune but I've also being very interested in the Bluefin method. I say this because I like the idea of having the option to flash back to stock whenever I feel like it. I haven't heard to much about it but I do know there is a version for the Polo Gti, the cost is around $735 which is a lot better then an APR tune.

My concern is what's everyone's experience and or opinions with Superchip like are they reputable, has anyone even looked down this track before?

Plenty of people have this tune, so I am sure someone will be able to tell from personal experience.

If you do decide down this road, Jmac on here is the Australian distributor I am led to believe, so might be worth contacting him for any concerns and other questions.

Cool might do that... I hear you need to flash/open the ECU on the Polo's before getting a tune, I'll need someone to do that before getting a Bluefin.

i just checked the website and they dont list it for the polo. they have the twincharger for the golf and the like but no polo.
i remember calling viezu about there v switch but they dont do one for it as it has to be bench tuned. would this be the same for the bluefin?

Go to the Superchip uk website they have a tune there, as far as I know it can be chipped here in Australia as well! just needs an ECU mod before. Basically the new ECUs ie Polo Gti have a nod in them they prevent the ECU from being flashed, this needs to be over written once that's done your good to go..

Do you still get the hand controller? Can the hack be detected by a local dealer?

All tunes can be detected when the MED 17.5 and later ecu gets plugged into the remote server at a dealership, it can tell how many times it has been flashed. If this doesn't match the data on the server, it's pretty evident there is a tune present. This is only if they pull the ECU out. On the vehicle? Nigh on impossible.

I dont quite understand what you mean. Why would any current or previous aftermarket tune be undetectable if the ECU is installed versus on the bench. According to internal VAG documentation, as soon as any ECU is scanned the tuned drivetrain (TD1) flag is automatically added to the vehicle warranty record and this is both transparent to and uncontrollable by the technician doing the scan. Since that documentation says the flag is automatically added when routine maintenance is done (and puling out an ECU is not normal maintenance), I dont understand the connection.

Also, I think Superchips in Australia is now handlded by the NZ agent.

JonP01, I gather that you have/do work(ed) for or with a dealership to have that kind of knowledge, or have a very in-depth knowledge of how the system specifically works.

Back when I wrote that post, there was still a level of dealership technician control as I am lead to believe. It was not until October of 2012 when an online update to the system occurred that previously undetectable tunes became very visible. Prior to this, the flash counter was the first point of reference but that was a specific requested part of the diagnosis which if checked and different, the TD1 flag would be thrown. APR for example have very clever programmers that could leave the flash counter as it was pre-tune so they were (until recently) undetectable.

Hence, my comment regarding the ecu. For the companies that could produce an undetectable tune, previously the only way to get the official nod that there was indeed an ecu tune was to remove the ecu and bench test it. That was a while ago and not being at the fore-front of ECU tuning development I don't know exactly when th changeover happened but I do know that the latest MED17.5.5 software updates have got some pretty advanced security measures in them to stop them being tuned, a fact I find funny when there are clearly issues with how the stock programs are written resulting in engine failures, yet I all the tuned cars around the world, I have not come across a tuned owner than has experienced an ecu-programme related failure
