Getting ready for my second attempt at Polo purchase

Its coming up to salary package review time again.

Last year I was torn between golf and polo with different option levels and it was a frightful experience, with a) lack of knowledge from salespeople b) lack of manual cars to test drive. I visited 4 different dealers and didnt come away smiling from any. Especially one where I drove 90 minutes only to find the car I was promised was out on a pizza delivery run and was dsg. Then being asked if I wanted to try an amarok because they are manual.

Its started again, the local dealer had no manuals in any trim spec. I was told there was a 77tsi ready to be pulled from the holding yard and they are now a week late in calling me to say its ready. I'll just assume that the polo has the same kind of engine characteristics as the skoda and golf manual quality gearshift. I probably wouldnt get the alcantera seats on price alone anyway but I cant sit in them to know if they are impossible to ignore. How am I supposed to know if I want the sports pack without driving one and feeling how harsh it is? Even if I could drive one, is the sports pack really worthy of the money? Would it make more sense going aftermarket?

I came across this car somewhere out there on the interweb. This body kit is apparently a factory kit. Is this available in Aus? It doesnt appear in the brochure. The car looks sweet, would never have considered white before seeing this. Saved me some $$$. I wont be going that big in the wheels though.

How frustrating - two things to consider:

1) call Terry Knight at Kloster VW here in Newcastle. He is brilliant and wont screw you around. If theres a manual Polo available, he will get it for you. Kloster Volkswagen | Contact Us

2) drive another VW vehicle with the 6 speed manual. The Golf 77TSI and 90TSI has the same manual gearbox as the Polo. The Skoda Fabia 77TSI uses a 5 speed so you cant compare that, although the Octavia 90TSI has the 6 speed. What i can tell you is that the VW 6 speed manual is a nice gearbox. My brother works at Newcastle Skoda/Audi and ive driven stacks of their manuals over the past 5-6 years - plus my own Golf R is a manual.

One thing i would recommend is getting the car tuned. They are a little underpowered in stock form and another 20kw/50nm really helps move these 77TSI's along nicely > http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...lia-55245.html

PS - the Polo in the pics above looks great. Cant help you with details on the bodykit, but it looks good.

This is a common story with VW unfortunately. I believe it's not the dealers fault altogether as the allocations of vehicles we get here is a drop in the ocean for them so we end up getting shafted. However dealerships and sales people stuffing you around and making you feel like it's your fault is totally unacceptable. But remember we are not talking about business professionals here with tertiary degrees.

On a positive note I purchased a 77TSI for my fiance and it's great. Punchy, well built, looks great and the gear box is excellent! Much better than my Polo GTI with 5 speed.

The body kit is available from dealerships also. IMO the sports kit is not worth as we plan on adding our own wheels and have already dropped it on its ass with H&R springs like the photo you posted. The white is amazing with the kit, window tint and the sun roof too. We are waiting for the warranty to run out before tuning but that's on the cards for sure.

To the OP as a relatively new (Jan 2012) owner of a 77TSI I'm pretty happy with my car. Sometimes new car purchases are considered, sometimes you just have to move with the times. I wanted something economic and something I could go and see clients in a few times a year. Drove a GTI Polo in March 2011 but the wait seemed too long. Finished up with a cancelled order 77TSI DSG with Sportspack and Comfort pack. I really like the Comfort pack, it's not something I would have normally ordered... climate control and the rain sensing wipers. I really like the factory 17" wheels.

For work the Polo has a decent sized glovebox, mine has the centre armrest with storage when you lift up the lid. There's also good storage in front of the drink holders. I'm loving the DSG, occassionally under a very light throttle load you'll find yourself in too high a gear, that's it. Just over the 4000km mark, I've not applied the "drive it like you stole it" approach. Hasn't used any oil so far.

Mines white, it's a really bright white, perhaps like an ice cream colour. I've seen red and black ones but always liked white cars. This is a great white and contrasts very nicely against the black trim. I've come from a Twin Turbo Nissan to the Polo and the Polo is not feeling underpowered. The 77TSI has a lot of torque and doesn't need a lot of revs in normal driving. It will shift up automatically quite happily @ 2000 rpm. On cold days like the Nissan, the Polo I guess having a turbo likes cold air. The other day it was about 12C and fresh. But unlike the Nissan the Polo doesn't seem to be bothered at the other end of the temp scale.

When buying a Polo I wouldn't be afraid to bargain hard. Would post an image if I could

That's crazy - your situation and experience almost exactly parallels mine last year. I ended up without either a Polo or a Golf and it left a bitter taste.

I'm looking at Toyota 86's now. Don't take your business back to the same dealers.

I would say most likely not due to the rear bumper of the GTI is completely different to the TSI/TDI, the side skirts of the GTI have a black gurney on it where as the TSI/TDI do not (thus blocking glue points).

The kit is a straight bolt on/glue on kit...with no need for customisation, your car would need a little bit of modification to even contemplate using it.

Went back to the dealer this morning, the car they were going to call me about but didn't "must have been sold". I test drove a bluemotion golf. Not too bad, slightly laggy. Now do I get optioned up polo or spec blumo? The body kit above would be a dealer fit accessory, $2793 +gst, +fitting!!! Although I could reduce that a little by deleting stainless boot trim and carbon mirrors.
