FT86/BRZ vs Polo GTI 6R

3 weeks ago i wanted to buy a car on the spot.. I went into toyota and was told to wait 9months for a gts 86 at about 39850.. I went into vw and on the showroom floor they had the polo gti. As soon as i hopped into, i loved it straight away. I didnt really care if it was rwd, i had owned a s14 before anyways. What sold me was the price! And another thing that put me off a ft86 was that even man and his dog has one..

I read the other day that Subaru wont be releasing a turbo BRZ any time in the near future, possibly at all. This was in an article about the new WRX/STI (which interestingly will no longer share anything with the impreza). Their line was that if people wanted a turbo then they would be encouraged to look at a WRX/STI, and that releasing a turbo BRZ would change the whole balance and driving dynamic of the car, and this was something that they felt went against the whole concept for what the BRZ/86 is meant to be, a well balanced, rear drive sports car. I'm not sure if Toyota will go down the same road, but I believe there is some sort of agreement between the 2 manufactures and what they can offer with the car? correct me if I am wrong.

Also I second the fact that there are a billion 86's around

I was considering the 86, but the lack of the turbo, the ricer wing, the 2 seat factor and the lack of a test drive at the time meant i opted for the Polo.

The WRX/STI will share significant portions of the impreza donor car.

What Toyota have suggested is either a performance hybrid setup or just use the larger 2.5L naturally aspirated engine.

I agree. I have driven a VW polo in Germany and I felt that it was really well built. Felt much stronger.

No Polo is made in germany, that would've been from the spanish factory, where our GTIs are built too.

I've seen the trim pieces used in the Jetta (Mexico), Mk5 Golf (South Africa), Polo (Spain) and Octavia (Czech). The Jetta's were absolutely dismal (not enough plastic over the clips so they were rip off if you dont remove the trim perfectly). Golf was good but I imagine the plastic actually comes from Germany, Polo was very good and the Octys were mind-blowingly solid.
